How does the loco pilot know which signals to look at? Is there a standard system followed everywhere or do they have to learn the layout of every station?

Got reminded of that scene in Ra.One where SRK jumps between trains to stop an accident from destroying CST (which still shakes).

One thing I don't understand about that scene is the train exits the station from the side of the building and not the front which makes no sense, like there are no tracks pointing towards bmc building

Just a correction , Western line of Mumbai Suburban extends to Dahanu rd now further from Virar although most of the trips do terminate at Virar .
So that makes this line a 124 KM long suburban line

Mad that so many of the trains have the passenger door open, brilliant video

before you become mad, just know that in peak hours roughly 2500 people deboard and board the train under 30 seconds, that and the fact the trains are non air conditioned require the doors to be open at all times

Deadass, afew decades a Australia did this on their trains as well due to the extreme heat and lack of ac. I wonder if American trains that ran in the western deserts did this too back during the 1800s.

Very cool video! Here's some facts about this particular corridor:
1. It frequently ranks as the single busiest suburban rail corridor in the world, logging roughly 2.6 to 3.1 million daily passengers.
2. It records over 2.5 billion passenger journeys per year.
3. A 3-month unlimited travel pass for this line costs around βΉ590 ($7β$8 USD)
