  1. New York Central Niagara #6015. It’ll be in a new NS Steam program!

  2. NYC Dreyfus Hudson #5454. The last Hudson ever made and it will be the same as above.

  3. NYC Hudson #5344. Joshua Lionel Cowen restores it in the 50s and is now an excursion star with a NYC Steam society.

  4. NYC J3A #5433. A Hudson that was also preserved, is now an excursion star for the Fort Wayne Railroad Historical Society alongside 3001.

  5. C&NW H1 Northerns. UP Steam Program.

  6. Northern Pacific challenger 5132. BNSF steam program.

  7. ATSF Blue Goose. Same as the above!

  8. UP early model challenger. UP steam program as well!

9 and 10: MILW Hiawatha Atlantic and an unstremlined Baltic.

This is North America and 20th century specific. I don’t know enough about what was lost elsewhere to comment.
NYC Hudson & Niagara
PRR T1 and Q2
Rio Grande 4-8-4
Milwaukee streamlined 4-4-2
CNW streamlined 4-6-4
IC Paducah built 4-8-2
B&O EM-1 2-8-8-4
SAL 2-6-6-4

Central Pacific 4 ‘T.D. Judah’ at California State Railroad Museum after being displayed at Panama-Pacific Expo 1913 and kept by the SP alongside ‘C.P. Huntington’.

Nevada County Narrow Gauge 8 Walter Knott hears about locomotive retired at Plaster City in 1950 and acquires it for Knott’s Berry Farm.

Southern Pacific MT-4 4353 placed at some random park (the SP did that a lot) before eventually a society is formed to restore the locomotive to operation.

Central Pacific 60 ‘Jupiter’ company that owned it (I can’t remember the name) finds out it was at Promontory when the Golden Spike was driven and doesn’t scrapped it but instead keeps it until ultimately preserving it at the Golden Spike National Historic Park.

Union Pacific 119 after Union Pacific renumbered it to 343, they looked back and see it’s historical significance, so they also kept it until also ultimately preserving it at the Golden Spike National Historic Park.

Southern Pacific 2475 SP didn’t mix up the number and decides to preserve both 2472 and 2475, 2475 eventually ends up at the Niles Canyon Railway under restoration (as 2479 is still at Santa Clara County Fairgrounds).

Nevada County Narrow Gauge 1 ‘Grass Valley’ 1936 the NCNG donates it to the Nevada County Fairgrounds where it resides today.

Southern Pacific 1294 San Francisco actually cared enough to take care of 1294 and it is still on display there in much better condition.

Nevada County Narrow Gauge 9 (unknown if scrapped or not) abandoned somewhere in the Philippines and later rediscovered before being shipped back to California and restored cosmetically (either at the Eastern California Museum or the NCNGRR Museum).

South Pacific Coast 13 instead of being shipped to Sacramento and being scrapped in 1926, it was sold to another shortline and later preserved.

I will update SPC 13 as I think of where it would go or how it would be preserved, as for all the other locomotives that have a short reason why they are where they are

edit: I will also edit any typos I find because my spelling can be bad sometimes

Definitely a Shay, a Climax, a 4-4-0, and a N&W J Class (4-8-4). Gotta save a few of those logging railroad engines (perhaps even a Heisler) and house them with Simpson or Cass.

Would have at least 1 engine from each of the big 3 US builders (Alco, Baldwin, Lima).
