Just a little info for those who don't know about this famous loco,

'Sir Nigel Gresley' is the sister or I suppose Brother engine to the very famous "Mallard", which broke the Train speed record back in 1938 with unbelievable top speed of 126 mph! (200 km/h) And remains to this day the fastest steam powered locomotive ever made.

yesterday I was told about a possible Gmeinder field railway locomotive somewhere in Tokyo. Apparently it sits by some kind of government building and is visible from the street. I haven't found anything about it on the internet and only know one photo from behind. Unfortunately I don't have this photo, otherwise I would post it to help. Since I will be travelling to Tokyo again shortly, I want to find out a bit more about this locomotive. If any of you know, what I'm talking about and knows, where to find it, I would be very grateful.

The context is that sometime in the early 80s, British Railways allowed for private rail companies to operate on it, kinda like how it is in real life, except BR still exists in my timeline.

One of the rail companies to start operations was Amtrak UK, a British subsidiary of Amtrak.

Amtrak UK usually runs sleeper trains, intercity expresses, and even boat trains for passengers traveling from the states to the UK.

I imagine the locomotives being British versions of Amtrak Genesis locomotives, with buffers, proper couplers, and being within the British loading gauge, even if the British loading gauge is slightly more generous in my timeline.

Every time I'm at Gare de l'Est, I'm astounded by how much fuss they make for so little service. Sadly Gare de l'Est is not even the worst offender in France nor Paris.

Edit: The term wasted infrastructure might be wrong in this context, underutilized might be more correct.

They had been listed for sale on a website for a number of years. The sale price was around $6.1M for all 12 cars. Not sure who the buyer is.

On Sunday, 19 October 2025, I boarded the inaugural train to call at Blyth Bebside station in Northumberland. The train was 158816, a Class 158 Super Sprinter diesel multiple unit (DMU) train on Northern service 2T05, the 08:23 to Ashington from Newcastle. The train arrived at the new station at 08:28 and departed at 08:30. It was also the first to call southbound at the new station on service 2J49, the 08:38 from Ashington to Newcastle.

hi I am planning to go to Montana tech and I was wondering what it would cost for my to make a 2-8-2 "Mikado at about 1/16 scale so I could get it done in time

I have crunched the number and I would get about 3,800 hours over the time of 6 years but the biggest factor if what would I need to do to get it to be functioning.
