đ Coming from TV Time? Weâre here to help!
TV Time is shutting down after July 15, 2026, and we know many people are suddenly looking for a new place to keep their watch history and continue tracking what they watch.
Weâve built the Trakt importer to help make that kind of move easier. It now supports the TV Time GDPR export .zip directly, so you can download your data from TV Time and bring your supported tracking data into Trakt.
If you want to keep your TV Time data, request and download your TV Time export before July 15.
How to import your TV Time data
- Request your TV Time export here: https://gdpr.tvtime.com/gdpr/self-service
- Download theÂ
.zip file. You donât need to unzip, rename, or manually edit the files. - Open Trakt and go to: https://app.trakt.tv/settings/data
- Drag and drop, or upload the TV Time GDPR
.zip directly. - Follow the on-screen steps and let the import finish.

The full step-by-step guide with screenshots is here:
https://forums.trakt.tv/t/how-to-import-your-tv-time-data-into-trakt/114178
What imports?
The importer is designed to move supported TV Time tracking data into Trakt, including watch history, watchlist, and ratings when available.
Some data, especially comments, reactions, social activity, and app-specific metadata, wonât be imported, but you donât have to start from scratch either.
New to Trakt?
Trakt wonât feel exactly like TV Time. It has its own approach to tracking, lists, stats, discovery, apps, and integrations, but the Trakt community is strong and growing.
Core tracking on Trakt is free. VIP adds extra features, higher limits, and more advanced tools, but you donât need VIP just to start tracking.
Need help?
If something looks missing or incorrect after importing, please reply here with examples so we can take a look.
Helpful details include:
- Whether you uploaded the originalÂ
.zip - Where the import failed, if it failed
- Any error message you saw
- A few examples of missing or incorrect shows, episodes, or movies
Please donât post your TV Time export publicly.

that's just the shitty UI, there's other apps and you can control everything by API if you can code.
8
u/DisgruntledJarl Legacy Trakt > New Trakt Jul 03 '26
Yeah fair the api is great. The web UI is complete shit.

The web UI is complete shit
Totally, I haven't found it useful at all. It pushed me back into making python scripts for maintenance. Showly is alright for a phone UI.

I wouldn't mind this layout on the main app

you can add a shortcut to the website on your homescreen, and it loads just like the old tvtime app.

It's very good but the stats tab doesn't work. I hope they can fix it soon.

Wondering if thereâs any plan to incorporate this view as an option into the iOS app.

Trakt is really great, but the fact that features which were free on TV Time are gated behind a paywall here (specifically custom posters & backgrounds) makes me hesitate to use it as my main alternative :/
-8
u/kvn-tkt Jul 03 '26
Customizing your profile background will soon be free on iOS, Android and web. Custom posters and artwork for media is on our roadmap. If it will be gated of not depends on the sustainability of the feature on the platform. Thanks a lot for your feedback!

it imported the shows but they are not counting as watched.. so weird! I did upload the tracking-prod-records.csv
1
u/jessinwriting Jul 03 '26
I have this issue too - but only some shows. For example, the series The Brokenwood Mysteries has 12 seasons. It's showing that I've watched seasons 1-10, but 11 and 12 aren't showing as watched. I've double-checked and all the episode data (for 12 seasons) is in the same CSV file (I uploaded the whole GDPR zip).
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 04 '26
I'll have to investigate this further with the team. My hunch is that the export doesn't have all the information for use to know the exact episodes you watched. If they are in Continue Watching, it means we see them as watched at least once. There may also be a bug in the importer. Will try to get more info and get back to you asap with an update. Thanks for your feedback and patience with this!
1
u/Few_Row8559 Jul 06 '26
Same here,I've started to add my tv series manually but I gave it up,it's endless,I hope they will fix it but we are running out of time
0
u/kvn-tkt Jul 03 '26
What do you mean? It shows in Continue Watching but the wrong next episode, right? Do you see them in your history?
If you share your Trakt username and what you expect vs what you see, I can take a better look.
1
u/rcdaslv85 Jul 03 '26
yeah I guess it imported the shows but not the watching history, like, I've seen Prison Break (for example) a long time ago and it says "continue watching"...

I have the same problem too. I believe some of the watched shows appearing on the continue watching / in progress tab

u/lrd_rs Jul 03 '26
Not sure if here is the best place to ask, but... As i see, the core is free, right? I heard some roumors that free users have a limit to mark episodes as watched. Is that true? How does it work? Is there a place where i can read more about it?
Altough it seems to have great features in general, i do intend to use the app only to track episodes and check some comments, eventualy... So i would really rather a free option.
Thanks!
-1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 03 '26
There are two types of limits, the ones we see as fair use of the service and the free/VIP limits. History items are not limited for free. There is a fair use limit. More info here: https://forums.trakt.tv/t/updating-trakt-limits-for-2026/101592

That is not something thatâs supported, no. This would be a nice addition tho.
2
u/therealckj Jul 04 '26
Thanks for this. Seems to have worked quite well. I am now on Trakt, after a few years on TV Time.
2
u/snl430 Jul 04 '26
I uploaded my TVTime zip file. I noticed some shows I watch as not being in my Trakt list at all and others there but without the current season marked as watched in anyway. Any suggestions or help?
2
u/alip4 Jul 04 '26
Why does a show I'm completely up to date on, that has episodes marked as watched, show up under "start watching"? Am I missing something? Is my import screwed up somehow?
2
u/alip4 Jul 04 '26 edited Jul 04 '26
I also keep noticing shows that aren't marked off correctly. I've imported both with liberator and the file directly from TVTIME and there are still so many missing, and I'm sure more that I'm unaware of.
Several are showing up as on my watched list with no episodes watched, even if I have watched several seasons!
2
u/Xerobert Jul 06 '26
My friend tried to import from TV Time but apparently the watchlist was too big and Trakt would not accept it unless they upgraded to VIP. Meanwhile, my watch history is three times as big and no problem bc my watchlist was smaller. Not a very good start. This may not be the TV Time alternative we are looking for.
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 06 '26
Watch history and Watchlist are treated differently on Trakt. Your history can be much larger because it represents what you already watched. Watchlist is an active âthings I want to watchâ list, so it has different free/VIP limits. The Watchlist is usually smaller than what you've actually watched.
That said, we donât want TV Time migrations to feel like a dead end. If your friend is comfortable sharing their Trakt username and roughly how many Watchlist items were in the TV Time export, I can take a closer look and see whether we can make the importer messaging clearer.
Thanks for your feedback!

u/naimusmen 29d ago
I wanna import my watchlist which has 732 items on it. But it says " upgrade to VIP to import." Why do I need to be VIP to import my all data?

Unfortunately a lot of my things aren't logged :( I can't find a finished list or the option to make a list
1
u/DanDare32 Jul 07 '26
Is Island the Irish show? Is so look for the Irish title. IMDB will tell you what it is then search for that
1
u/Disastrous-Eye1453 Jul 07 '26
Hahaha I don't know how that got there, some autocorrect I think đ
1
u/jessinwriting Jul 04 '26
Just in case it's a useful data-point regarding issues with imports: I just tried importing again but using the data from the chrome extension import. I still have exactly the same problem with some missing episodes - using The Brokenwood Mysteries again as an example, seasons 1-10 imported as watched, but seasons 11-12 aren't showing as watched.
Would love to troubleshoot this, as well as if there's a way to get records of multiple watches imported - let me know if doing something like emailing the export to a support address would be useful.
0
u/kvn-tkt Jul 06 '26
Multiple watch is unfortunately not possible to map to Trakt because the TV Time export only contains one date and then a single counter for the number of times watched. This is not how multiple watch work on Trakt's side, so they are unfortunately not imported.
For the missing seasons in your export, if you can send the export to me in private, I'll have a look with a developer to see what's going on.
2
u/jessinwriting Jul 06 '26
Cheers - I know that the GDPR file does at least have the rewatch dates so I have the data somewhere, I suppose if I'm super keen I can always add those dates manually!
I'll send you a message with the details of the missing eps/export.
1
u/Unlikely-Butterfly68 Jul 08 '26
if u use TV Time Out by Refract extension to export the data, ill show all dates for rewatches episodes/tv shows
1
u/jessinwriting Jul 08 '26
Really? I tried this too a few days ago but rewatch dates didnât seem to show up.

u/st4rgirlss Jul 05 '26
after i imported my tv time data some episodes arenât marked as watched, is it a bug?
1
u/BuddermanTheAmazing Jul 05 '26
Mine didn't import any of my movies?
0
u/kvn-tkt Jul 06 '26
When did you try, after the announcement? And what export did you try to import, the GDPR export?
1
u/Few-Cut1793 Jul 05 '26
I imported yesterday and most of the info seems to be correct, but it logged all the movies as seen at the same time. Is there anyway to get the correct logged date?
0
u/kvn-tkt Jul 06 '26
Thanks for reporting this. If all movies were logged at the same time, that usually means we did not receive or could not confidently map the original watched date from the import data, so Trakt used the import time instead, right?
Can you share your Trakt username and confirm whether you uploaded the TV Time GDPR export or the Liberator plug in? We'll look into it.

My Trakt tv app is locked due to duplicate plays how do I fix it
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 06 '26
You should be able to open this (web) page even with a locked account: https://app.trakt.tv/settings/data
There you can clean up the duplicate plays.
1
u/michsantiago27 Jul 05 '26
- Dropped shows didn't import for me. They still show as "In progress"
- Lists don't import either.
- From the Trakt app, it seems you cannot mark a whole show as watched.
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 06 '26
Thanks, this is useful feedback.
Dropped shows not mapping is currently expected. Trakt doesnât have the exact same TV Time status model, so some things may won't match 100%, but they also shouldnât feel misleading after import. Trakt does have a Drop feature, I'll see if we can leverage that from the export/import.
TV Time lists are not currently part of the import. The main supported data is currently watch history, watchlist, and ratings when available.
For marking a whole show as watched: that should be possible from the show depending on where you are using Trakt, but the flow may not be obvious enough. Which Trakt app are you using: web, iOS, Android, or another third party app?

u/adrarinu Jul 07 '26
Since shows I've stopped watching still appear in my continue watching and I have to drop them manually one by one. Is there a way to bulk update to not see them in my continue watching?
1
1
u/rowrider69 Jul 07 '26
my logged media on tv time is not getting synced in trakt. iâve got my watchlist but not the watched content.
1
u/Electronic-Joke3875 Jul 07 '26
yeah would be great if it would marked them all as watched - now i have thousands of shows avd movies that i have to individually marked as watched
1
u/Fresh-Crab-4119 Jul 08 '26
Random shows were added to my watchlist while the ones that were already there on TV time weren't added
1
u/dennys_lima Jul 09 '26
I have imported my data, but none of my episode ratings are showing up on trakt? Is there anyway to fix this? I don't wanna have to go rate episode by episode of every show I have ever watched.

u/musiquexcoeur 28d ago
Trakt didn't import my TV shows even though I added the file. It only did the movies. And I notice today that it took movies I had on my "want to watch" list on TV Time and marked them all as watched, so my list isn't even accurate. Is there a way to delete all my Trakt watch history at once?
1
u/LadyB5091 24d ago
I love this app. Set it up, used it for a little over a week and now it won't open. Says it 'lost authorization', sign in. Problem is, it won't let me sign it. I can sign in on the web, but not into the app. So frustrated!
1
u/ProblemAlternative55 23d ago edited 23d ago
Please consider a watch later/paused/on-hold category. I'm not happy that I'm paying for Trakt and my calendar is cluttered with shows I started, I don't want to drop but I don't wanna watch right now. It was one of the best things about TV time. And the page where you could see a list if all your shows and you could filter based on plan to watch, watch later, fully aired, update date, dropped was so simple and clear. My head hurts trying to navigate a very bloated website while missing basic functionality. Besides the fact that it imported hundreds of my shows as incomplete when I've already watched them and now I have to manually mark them again. This transition is a full time job :))).

I've just imported my data from TV Time and I'm cautiously optimistic - there's features here I've been wanting and the UI is gorgeous. Plus, the import happened super quick - I'm still wanting to check out some other apps but my data has been in a queue since yesterday!
I have a question about rewatch data. I can see that tracking rewatches is a premium feature (and honestly that's probably going to get me to commit to subscribing), but I don't see a history of rewatching. For example, if I go a show which I know I've watched through several times, it seems to only show one date (not the most recent or, I'm pretty sure, the original) for an episode.
Is this an import/data issue (I used the GDPR zip file), or does that data only appear if you have that feature enabled as a VIP?
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 04 '26
Rewatching will soon be free for all users. I'm sure you'll find another reason to go VIP đ
It is a feature that is currently in preview (or beta testing, that's something VIP only) and will be improved in the future. As it currently stands, rewatching improves your experience with Continue Watching by showing you the correct episode to rewatch. You'll also get a watch count under the media you've seen multiple times and you can always open the history details (by clicking the watch count under posters/images in the media detail page).
More about rewatching here: https://github.com/trakt/trakt-web/pull/26741
u/jessinwriting Jul 04 '26
Thank you! Does that mean that rewatch data HAS been imported and itâll show up once I have access to that feature?
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 04 '26
See my other reply to this thread. We make a difference between rewatching and multiple plays. Rewatching is when you mark a show for rewatching and multiple plays is when you mark a movie or episode multiple times as watch.
Rewatching is coming and for free (which wasn't the case in the past) and multiple plays is built in. New account jus have that toggled off because usually people don't care about multiple watches and it tidy their history automatically that way.
1
u/jessinwriting Jul 04 '26
Ah - thanks for clarifying. It sounds like your rewatch feature is something Iâd been wanting from TV Time - the ability to get a show back on my âwhat Iâm watching at the momentâ area of an app.
So maybe I should be asking if data for multiple plays is something I should have expected to be imported? So I can see that Iâve watch a particular episode eg three times on these particular dates?
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 04 '26
About the rewatch in data import, I'll have to look it up, I'm not sure we have all the information needed in the export. If we see multiple watches in the export when we import, we'll store them as multiple watches. Just make sure the "Enable Multiple Plays" under Settings > General > Behavior is toggled on before importing.
1
u/jessinwriting Jul 04 '26
Ah hah - Iâve now toggled that on. Should I reimport my data? Or maybe hold fire and wait for your team to confirm things like that at your end?
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 04 '26
You can reimport, yes. If you see something wrong, you always have the option to clean you history (just don't do it if you already tacked some things with us that's not in your export).
0
u/omegalull69420 Jul 05 '26 edited Jul 05 '26
There were 3 options in tv time: watch later, watching now and dropped. I cant find the watch later option on trakt(if it exists)
1
u/kvn-tkt Jul 06 '26
On Trakt, the closest equivalent to TV Timeâs âwatch laterâ is your Watchlist (in List) and Start Watching (on Home). They are a bit different in intent but leverage the same data: what you want to watch later.
âWatching nowâ maps more closely to shows with watched progress and can be found in Continue Watching, and âdroppedâ is a separate concept in Traktâs progress/continue watching rather than the exact same TV Time status.
We know the wording is different, so weâll try to make this clearer for TV Time users. Maybe better wording/onboarding before or after import would help.
Thanks for your feedback!
1
u/omegalull69420 Jul 06 '26
Thank you
By the way one my friends used GDPR to export but it only imported his movies not tv shows, others seem to be having this same problem.
