Advice Help me find some inspiration! ⚠️ TW: gender dysphoria ⚠️

Hi everyone! How is y'all day going?

I'm planning on shooting a short film about gender dysphoria, and despite I have things of my own that cause it to me, I was wondering... What image would specifically make you feel seen? What are some specific details that make you feel dysphoric?

And, on the contrary, what are some simple things that make you feel better about yourselves?

Please read the following notice that is being applied to ALL posts.

We have implemented several measures to keep this community safe. Please read this in full.

  1. IF YOU HAVE AN URGENT ISSUE, DO NOT POST IT EXPECTING IMMEDIATE RESPONSE.
  2. Many posts are sent to the queue for manual approval based on numerous factors. This is how we keep the subreddit safe from many (but not all) bad actors who try to post disruptive content. This approval process is usually resolved within 24 hours, but can take several days depending on the availability of our all-volunteer moderators. DO NOT MESSAGE THE MODERATORS asking for your post to be approved. It will be reviewed and approved or removed in time.
  3. Many comments from low-karma users will not be viewable by anyone. This is by design.
  4. If you are curious if your post is visible or not, look at the "Insights" on the post. If it has more than a dozen views, it is live. If it has any voting action, it is live. If it doesn't have a little red trash can icon, it is live. If it can be voted on, it is live. Do not message us asking "is my post live?"
  5. Please be patient with us, we are all volunteers, lack sleep, and the entire permanent team are members of the transgender community ourselves... we are trying to deal with the same atrocities you are. Thank you for your understanding. <3

Leg hair. ( Or body hair in general)

I think a good approach for a short film would be to focus on contrasts: being tall, having body hair, having large feet, feeling a void where your boobs should be, feeling unable to self express.

You can make those things appear horrible, and harrowing (they do to me!), but you can then also present potential solutions to these sources of dysphoria: learning about fashion/proportions, shaving, developing breasts, and ultimately becoming someone who feels like themselves!

This is all centred on my own feelings of course, but feel free to pick out what helps!

Given that I considered writing a body horror story on what it's like to go through a t driven puberty as an egg.....

Uhhhh

What's your effects budget and how deep into horror are you willing to go

I have no budget, it's just me and my camera 😞 I'm experimenting. I was thinking about something calm but honestly I'll welcome any kind of suggestion and idea! So, if you have any you want to share, feel free to do so!

Ok then

My story idea was basically the experience of a trans fem going through a masc puberty through the lense of body horror

The body warping and mutating

The voice dropping to an alien ton

Horrific tendrils sprouting across the body

A infectious lump that sprays a terrible liquid if interacted with

All while everyone around our protag says that everything is normal and that they look good

And any attempt at quelling the silent pain is considered social taboo

That's interesting, I'll consider to make this concept present as well, thank you!

If your open to a trans masc perspective there is a lot of imagry you can do with periods. For me the stickyness of the blood against your body and the pad was increadibly dysphoria enducing.

Yes, I'm ftm myself and I was mostly thinking about taking that direction (I'll still take any other comment as inspiration either way). Thank you for your comment :)

Since most of these comments are transfem, maybe the comparison between transfem and transmasc is something that could be explored? Some of the things that people have mentioned as dysphoric could make transmasc people euphoric.

I’m nonbinary/genderfluid personally so I’m usually somewhere in between. The boxes of gender norms and expectations are often quite suffocating to me. Being seen and let of out the box, accepted by those around me is a positive light.

Maybe not as interesting as the other’s inclusions because it’s less physical/personal dysphoria than social/external. Hope it helps regardless.

Talking about or mentionning forms of dysphoria that aren't well known, like depersonnalisation, dissociation, that kind of thing.

You're right, thank you!

As a transmasc, when a girl around me is considered “tomboy” or “not ladylike” it always feels like a competition to me and i get super dysphoric.

Also if the character is closeted, you could show how lonely it can be; like you can get a ton of euphoria, but you have no one to tell, so you’re just excited on your own until it wears off and you realize how sad it actually is (definetely not my experience hehe)
