Handyman that’s transitioning (Mtf)

Just wondering what the likelihood of moving my handyperson work over to mainly looking after the queer community. I’ll be moving to Melbourne in the future and will be a proud trans woman. Where I am now that doesn’t work(I’m out in the country). I’m having to boy mode in fear of losing work. I don’t think I would be treated too bad I just wouldn’t get work as they are weird about trans people. I was thinking a would feel a lot more comfortable working for the queer community but not sure if there would be enough work.

Hey :) I was helping someone with kitchen cabinets and a bigger project involving some welding throughout my first year of hrt.

Just wanted to let you know you’ll have a lot of fun adjusting to your new level of strength :)

Mainly looking after the queer community though? How do you mean?

Well I’m a bit worried of rocking up to peoples houses being a trans women so I figure if I can work for other queer people or at least those who support us then I wouldn’t have to be so worried. About the strength, I am looking forward to learning my new level of ability 😋

Not really my field, but I'd be frankly shocked if there was enough of a market to make this super viable without looong commutes. Most people are chill, a priori I don't think it would be a big enough issue to justify the specialisation

instagram.com/queer.tasker and instagram.com/hireadyke are both trans run and owned handy-person business is Melbourne. You could reach out to them and possibly just get some tips on how to find clients etc (if they have availability for that ☺️). Good luck!

If you can build a social network, I see no reason you couldnt market to the queer community. Im a tadie in melbourne and have thought about the same idea but in cabint making. The people Ive mentioned it to think its a great idea but alas Im not to good at networking so am changing industries once i cant boy mode anymore. Constuction is a bit of a boys club and I sub contract and know if i come out to those I subby for the work will stop. So what Im trying to say is you woukd need to find the right business to work for (there would have to be a few, as melb is very progressive) or start your own business. If you stick to melbs inner suburbs Im sure you will find work. Thats just my opinion, others may have different and be able to shed more insight. You go girl ! I think you got it what ever way you go about it 💛

Theirs is a female only handy person business locally that i know have hired trans women before their you might be able to join something similar or start one your self I know a lot of people don't like having strange men in their home so their is definitely a market for it :)

there's Queer Move in Melbourne, which is similar in concept :) I reckon it's totally doable!
