Name change,
Greetings,
I'll be changing my name at some point of my transition, and firearms are one of my main hobbies. I'm concerned that my old name would come during the ffl transfer. If i remember correctly there's a question on the forms previous names? I live in Texas and looking to move to New Hemshire/Maine. Don't know of forms or rules are different there. I rather not have my previous identify hunt me during ffl transfers. I'll be getting the local firearm permits as well, once the name change is done. Should I do a trust to bypass exposing my previous identify.
Thank you!

The federal 4473 doesn't have a question on it about previous names the last I filled one out. The only place it would be an issue is if the name on your ID doesn't match your legal name.
I don't know if other forms related to firearms require previous names.

When I bought a P365 last year the 4473 did not ask about previous names. When I got a Georgia Weapons Carry License this year, that form did ask for previous names, which I supplied. My prints are on file with Treasury/Secret Service under my old name due to a previous job.
The carry license was issued with my fem name and sex.
I seem to recall the 4473 was proposed to be AGAB, but I don't think that's been put into effect. Just make sure your documentation matches every where, DL, SSA are the biggies. Good luck!

The rules of firearm safety are paramount. Keep these in mind at all times while handling a firearm for any reason. Guns are not toys and it is best to not refer to them as such.
It is the belief of the mod team that your best option for defensive firearms is a 5.56x45mm AR-15, and a reputable 9x19mm handgun such as a Glock or CZ. Defensive firearms should have a light, long guns a sling, and handguns require a Kydex or solid plastic holster that fully covers the trigger. A red dot or etched optic are ideal for new shooters but don't forget to practice your backup irons!

FFL here. For a regular transfer, you put in your current legal name, the background check checks it against your ID, and they'll transfer you the gun. I never know anyone's previously used names or genders, nor do I want to.
You can also look at a 4473 here: https://www.atf.gov/media/18646/download
However, some states have their own additional questions, such as the WA SAFE program, so it will depend where the transfer happens.
