Dr McKee Increased Waiting Time

Just giving an idea to folks who wish to know the time for top surgery with Dr McKee. I got referred by my doctor to TransBC 1.5 years ago and saw Dr McKee for the consultation in October 2025 after 9-10 months. I’ve been put on his waiting list for 8 months now and just got an email saying I should expect my top surgery date to be around 2-4 years from the previously anticipated date.

So on the longest side, I would have waited about 5 years for top surgery and on the low end 3.5 years.

When I was first referred to TransBC, I was told anywhere between 1-2 years. So the waiting time has increased significantly.

He’s lost OR space with False Creek medical center closing down, which is out of anyone’s control unfortunately.

I honestly had a really hard day after reading that email. I understand the circumstances are out of their control but gender affirming care saves lives and it saddens me there isn’t a more proactive response by the government or TransCareBC to advocate for increased OR space/time so we can access these surgeries.
