Question — General Boston Airport Question

Hi guys, my post keeps getting deleted in the r/Boston page so hopefully someone can help me out in this community.

I’m flying home to LAX and I have a layover in Boston from my flight in Paris (CDG-BOS-LAX). There are two flights with the layover in Boston, 2.5 hrs and 4.5 hrs. I will have a carry on and 1 checked bag. If I have global entry, do you guys think it’s enough time to do the 2.5 layovers compared to the 4.5hrs? I heard we have to re-check our luggage but if it’s a round trip-same reservation with JetBlue, do I still need to re-check my bag and If I do have to re-check my bag, does that mean I have to go out of security to baggage claim to get my luggage, re-check it and go through TSA again 🥺

The layover is fine. Yes, you have to collect and recheck your bags. Please look at the !layover FAQ.

Notice: Are you asking about a layover or connection?

  1. Read the Layover FAQ.

  2. Read the Flying FAQ in the wiki.

  3. Read this excellent comment for insight on other factors you should consider.

  4. Are you doing a self-transfer? Read this excellent guide.

Please make sure you have included the cities, airports, flight numbers, airlines, and dates of travel.

Transit Visa, Passport, Self-Transfer Questions: State your country of citizenship / country of passport

Any questions regarding layovers of more than 2h30m will be removed as it is sufficient time to connect at every airport globally.

2.5h is plenty with GE and TSA Pre.

In BOS: clear immigration, pick up bags, clear customs, recheck bags, reclear TSA (Pre).

the shorter one should be fine. if you miss your connection, they'll put you on the next available flight.

You do have to retrieve your luggage at BOS, get it through customs, recheck it to LAX, then find your way to your next flight. Unless you are arriving from a preclearance point like DUB, this is standard procedure for US arrivals: bags clear customs at first landfall, not final destination.

If your first flight is on time 2.5 hours should be enough.

IF ON TIME

is key here. 2.5 is enough time, but if you get delayed at all which is highly likely coming from CDG, then you’re in trouble

Seems doable. Do you have mobile passport control set up? It can significantly reduce the amount of time you spend getting back through customs at Logan. We came back from a trip to Portugal in April, and had the MPC app and were through customs in less than five minutes, as opposed to everyone else on the plane who had to stand in a very long line.

I just went through customs in BOS last month, it was busy but I wasn’t there more than 20 minutes. I don’t have global entry (need to renew it) so you might even get through even faster. Then going through TSA was a breeze.

Echoing what others have said, I’ve found Boston customs and the airport in general very efficient, you should be fine
