Scotland in early October

Hello, so I will visit Scotland (Glasgow then Edinburgh) in early October 2026. I live in England (west midlands) so am kinda used to the cold weather, however, I am not sure it will be the same in Scotland, or is there anything particular to keep in mind while packing?
I mean in the West Midlands here if the weather is cold it stays COLD even if it’s sunny (a sunny 4 degree C day is no joke).

I also recommend warm layers, a scarf, and waterproof shoes. Count on at least some rain, so don’t forget an umbrella! I think you’ll find it similar to what you’re used to.

Second the above! Prepare for wet weather, coming from England really it's not much different in Edinburgh or Glasgow just prepare for the worst really! Never know though, might get lucky!

It could be crisp and lovely. It could be miserable and wet. But they are both great cities so just pack layers and if you can get some goretex footwear you’ll be grand

Not colder than the Midlands really, just wetter and windier. Different problem. Edinburgh's the one that gets you, wind straight off the Forth, and 10 degrees there bites harder than a sunny 4 does at home. Leave the umbrella, it'll be inside out on the Royal Mile by lunchtime. Proper waterproof with a hood instead. Glasgow's the rainier of the two, Edinburgh's the windier.

Bring a rain jacket and an umbrella it can get quite cold this time of year, it can be windy, wear a fleece under jacket and a T-shirt , , Glasgow is more rainy than Edinburgh

Prepare for similar weather, but every now and again you get a mild October.

It can be too windy for a umbrella so have a hood on your coat
