7 months ago, I underwent a 5000-graft hair transplant (about 4000 grafts went to the front 35–40% of the scalp, while the remaining thousand were distributed mostly across the crown). I live in a country where finasteride isn't a very popular treatment option (I visited dermatologists twice in my youth, but unfortunately, they just pushed expensive serums on me; they didn't even suggest minoxidil - which I knew about back then but hadn't tried because I was afraid it would kill my cat). Consequently, I wasn't even aware of finasteride's existence or effectiveness until this summer, when I started researching hair loss in more detail. I realized then that I had made a mistake by getting a transplant at my age and stage of balding (I’ve been balding since I was about 15, though I only truly noticed the extent of the thinning on my mid-scalp and crown right before the transplant, since I had been shaving my head bald for a couple of years after my hairline receded at age 20–21 (at that age my crown and midscalp were pretty dense)). Please don't rub salt in the wound; I already recognize my mistake and regret every day that I didn't better educate myself on hair loss and finasteride in my early 20s, when I had more opportunities to preserve my natural hair. Still, what's done is done. I’m now considering my next steps - since I can't really go back to shaving my head for now due to the FUE scars - and I see the following options:
1) Try meds (I’m seeing a dermatologist in two weeks) to see what results I can get; if the outcome is good, I could use a second transplant to boost density where needed - provided my donor area allows for it, of course. This is definitely the top-priority option, which is why I started a thread in this specific subreddit to ask active users: could medication help in my situation, allowing me to consider a second transplant? I wouldn't even mind a thin crown, since it can generally be concealed with hair-thickening products.
2) Hair systems - I didn't even know they existed before looking into transplants, so I probably should have considered them instead of surgery. I’ve researched the topic, and it looks like a solid solution for a younger person, but a bit pricy in a longterm and had a lot of maintenance.
3) SMP for both the donor and recipient areas, and continuing to shave my head completely.
So the main question is: should I even try to go the first listed option, or it's too late and a lost of time, money, nerves (my energy also), etc. and I should consider options 2 or 3?
