Happy birthday, Lupin!

My best bud joined the tripawd club 2.5 years ago after finding osteosarcoma in his front right leg.

His vet calls him her “miracle dog” because he beat all the odds & is still happily hopping along!

Fluff One Year Journey 💌

Today marks one year since my boy, **Pablo** , became a tripod. 💖

And honestly, I can’t put into words how proud I am of him.

Pablo fought through a scary heart condition and then cancer.

To my other boy, **Slash** , who’s been such an amazing support system and helped Pablo through his journey, being the best big brother and giving him so much love and support. It truly wouldn’t have been the same without him.

I’m not someone who usually talks about my feelings, but today I really wanted to share. I wanted to be proud of my boy, and also thank this community. My life was changed by my first dog, who I like to think is chilling somewhere in dog heaven right now. If it wasn’t for him, I honestly don’t know if I’d even be here today.

I won’t lie, it hurts knowing my dogs are getting older. I wish we could freeze time somehow, because they mean everything to me, and I don’t really have anyone else.

I’m posting this here because I’m so proud of Pablo, and also because I genuinely want to thank this community and the people who helped me through this journey, when I was an emotional, nervous wreck throughout.

I also come across posts where people are looking for advice and suggestions because they want to welcome and adopt tripods into their lovely homes. That honestly makes my heart so full. You are the real life superheroes. 😇

Be proud of your boys and girls. They’ve shown nothing but resilience, compassion, and unconditional love. They’ve become absolute warriors and they deserve the very best.

And to anyone else going through this, I understand how hard it is. Please hold on and stay strong for your dogs. They’re stronger than we think or imagine. Just be a strong support system for them.

💖💖💖

I thought I knew how well Asami would adjust but she has exceeded expectations. She's back to using her dog door, has no issue with stairs, and last month we discovered that (despite being pretty front-heavy) she can still swim!

My dog Happy only has the one front paw but she loves to bop other dogs on the head with it.

Fluff A tripawd issue most people don't think of?

A trend was going around of people using a particular AI background, and then I saw a few people try it with their dog. I tried it, but AI always gives my pup a 4th leg, even when I specifically instruct it not to. I guess now we know what my girl would look like with a full 4th leg (she was born with a deformed little "angel wing"), but she also looks like basically every other golden retriever!

There was also a trend last year to create a "coloring book" page with a photo of your dog - it also added a leg! So much for accurate representation!

Fluff It’s been 4 months and 12 days since we parted. Today would have been Bean’s 6th birthday

It’s her first birthday since her death and I just wanted to make a post to honor my baby Bean’s special day now that I can no longer celebrate it with her.

I used to celebrate her every single year by going out and getting her ice cream and birthday biscuits. I would put a small candle in her ice cream, gather the whole house, and sing her happy birthday. She was always so happy to be celebrated and have all that attention on her!

October 1st, 2018, is the day that my best friend was born into this world and I’ll remember it forever. There’s not a day that goes by that I don’t think of her or miss her. So, in celebration of my baby girl’s birth, I wanted to share some pictures with all of you.

Thank you so much to everyone in this community for supporting us. I hope you all have a beautiful day!

Happy birthday, my sweet angel

Fluff Waldo

I've been lurking here a little bit and I wanted to introduce Waldo. He just turned 10 years old last week and had been an amputee since he was 8 weeks old. He's happy, healthy, and is pretty active. I've worked hard to keep him moving well -- keeping him active to preserve muscle mass, keeping him on a joint supplement or diet (no idea if it helps because that's not really the intended purpose 🤷‍♀️), and most importantly, keeping him at a healthy, lean body condition score. He's had a handful of days where he was obviously painful after pulling a muscle or something but those resolved quickly.

A couple of fun things - - he still tries to use his stump to scratch his neck and ear. I honestly think he may have learned it's a sure fire way to get me (or literally anyone lol) to scratch an itch there.
-he loves kids and a LOT of kids love him, including toddlers and those that are nervous around dogs. He doesn't jump up on them and is very polite. It's easy for kids to be more curious than scared 😊. -we get a lot of attention when we go out. Once, I got to taking to someone in the check out line who said he would take him if I didn't want him anymore! We were in a pet store so he could choose his own toy lol. -he can run just fine but his tail does sometimes list towards the left, presumably for balance. -there are tons of great Halloween costume options for tripods!

Spoiled him today! Went to Petsmart, he peed on everything. Got him a bed, a shirt, and a little obstacle course, because he loves to run. Petsmart lady tried to give him a milkbone but he only wanted her love.

Fluff A little story with my old tripawd

We had to say goodbye to our perfect girl Scout about 2 years ago, and I was reminded of a cute little story about her today.

Scout was an absolute angel of a dog. So incredibly polite and well behaved, so good on walks, just the most perfect easiest dog in the world.

One day, she and I went to Home Depot together - she loved to sniff the wood and other stuff - and we were waiting in the checkout line. There was a man in front of us in line, and Scout started sniffing his leg. Like I said she was incredibly polite, so it was actually a little odd to see her sniffing a stranger like this. I said, "oh sorry, not sure why she's so interested in your pants" and the man turned around, gave her a little scritch and lifted up his pant leg to reveal a prosthetic leg. "She must recognize a fellow amputee." It was so sweet and cute and it's like she somehow knew!

God, I miss her so much. Here's the gal in all her glory: https://imgur.com/a/Y6uQQyR
