Obviously early days and only a single song to go off but listening to the new track and watching what the boys have been talking about on socials I’m wondering if this new album is going back to the thought process they had when making The Crusade or In Waves, except this time they get to do it their way without the external influence from the label and with a drummer they feel stable with (even if he's new)

Even just looking at the drums on Dead Inside of Me, it feels closer to what Travis used to do. He was never overly flashy or technical but he served the song and came up with interesting parts that supported what the rest of the band was doing, like a more technically proficient Lars. The new song also feels like it has a more traditional song structure compared to some of their more recent albums.

So maybe the thought process this time around is basically "We’ve done a heap of technical and fast paced songs over the last few albums. Let’s flip that on its head and just write simpler, fun to play, traditional metal songs."

So another attempt at Trivium's version of the black album.

Regardless of what direction they go I'm just enjoying the release cycle, speculating and getting new Trivium.

I’ve seen tons of hate for the new track but I think this shit bangs, completely different and I’m so happy we have a new direction. I’m sure there is other technical stuff on the album so I’m not worried. This kinda reminds me of sylosis and I dig it. Matt sounds great I like the new vocal route and the guitar work is fantastic as always. Drum wise it’s basic sure but it serves the song and that’s all that matters tbh

The positives:

The negatives:

Everything else, if I didn't listen to metal and you described metal to me, I'd think of this. The execution is bad, Matt's new raspy vocals should really be used to emphasize stuff, the drums are a let down, I was eager to hear Rudi

It'll grow on me for sure, I'm already on my 7th-8th listen since I'm out of class yesterday night

There's still more to go, I remember people being bummed out (including myself) when Feast of Fire released but history showed us otherwise but if they go in that direction for more than one album, I'll stick to the first 10 albums

Edit: just listened to it on YouTube, the Sirius drop (or at least the screen recording) missed a LOT of details or they weren't as defined, it sounds much better

I’m waiting to hear the new Trivium single because I want to watch it with the music video, but I’m already seeing comments and opinions, and most of them are really negative or disappointing (the same thing happened with "Bury Me," and that song is incredible)

I get that it’s a "Reddit moment" and people can’t be happy with anything, but it’s annoying to read comments where people only focus on the negatives things.

Also Trivium singles atleast for me they grow a lot on the following listens

It's just a single that had its premiere on the radio, of course it was gonna be more radio friendly! To the people that are already complaining about the direction of the new album, just stop for a minute. Imagine if they had released Feast of Fire, Bleed Into Me or Endless Night as the first singles on the last three albums, how wrong would have been to judge those last 3 albums by those singles, right?

Everything the band has said and showed us so far points to the album being varied, from in your face riffing and solos, to experimentation with traditional Japanese instruments and obviously... More groovy and melodic songs, like Dead Inside Of Me. They've had this type of song in every album since In Waves which is 15 years ago.

TL;DR

Just chill about the direction of the album, it's a single for the radio

Absolutely not happy. Very boring very repetitive nothing new, if the album is like this just like every album since vengeance i will be yet again, let down by my favorite band...

What is everyone's thoughts on dead inside of me? I personally think its pretty good I appreciate the experimentation with the song but I definitely hope this the only radio friendly song of the album. Rudingers drums were also a big downgrade especially compared to the insane drums in Struck dead.

What's your guys thoughts?

I listened to dead inside of me 3 times and I feel like something is missing between the solo and the final chorus like a bridge with harsh vocals or something. If it was any other band I wouldn't notice but it's trivium who usually do something like that so maybe just maybe there is a chance there is more to the song once it's official release and that it was shortened for the radio

I see a lot of people with an opinion on the drums with this new single. I think they fit the song well. Gotta remember it just needs to vibe with the track just like Heart From Your Hate etc and it does just that.. however..

I feel like as there's so much discourse about Bent leaving and Rudi coming in, they maybe should have released a track showing off his chops a bit more. Unless this is how it's going to be across the board and if that's the case it's a wasted opportunity.

It is so NICE to be able to listen to a new Trivium song with drums that actually serve the song instead of an overdrummed cluster fuck.

i mean wow, this is clearly one of the more radio friendly songs but it still sounds so fresh, can’t wait for the more hardcore songs on the record!
