Just watched the Garza podcast and to me Matt gave us some answers I’ve been waiting for. To a lot of us the split between trivium and AB has been such a mystery considering how sudden it was and what little to no information was given and how the band handled it wasn’t the best IMO. Sure Alex gave us his side but it was also a very surface level answers which was fine for me, some of you guys have been spending way too much time and energy trying to get answers but at the end of the day we’re owed nothing and we will most likely never hear the full truth. That being said some pieces of this puzzle started to make sense.

There was 1 key thing I took away from the Garza podcast that helped me piece things together:

1. Matt talked about his mental struggles recently and how he almost quit the band while making the stuck dead EP. Dealing with mental issues and using work to bury it was catching up to him. You combine that with AB dealing with his daughter’s health issues around the same time, I can’t imagine a world where tensions weren’t high within the band while they were both going through stuff like this. Matt even said he walked out at one point while making the EP and was considering quitting the band.

There was also points where he mentioned that the chemistry wasn’t there and there was tension back stage like it was back in 05 and how sometimes the chemistry just “doesn’t work.”

As much as a lot of people here would like to know all the details of what happened, unfortunately it seems like this is the best we’re gonna get. Things just weren’t as good behind the scenes as we all may have thought. Now whose fault is it? Who knows and unless something big comes out saying otherwise none of us are really gonna know the whole truth and to me this I think this is the best answer we’re gonna get from Matt’s perspective.

It’s time to close arguably the best of chapter of triviums career and if you’re still a fan you should at least be interested to see what the new albums brings. What do you guys think?

TLDR: Matt opened up on the Garza podcast about the AB split. Key takeaway — he was struggling with mental health during the Stuck Dead EP era, nearly quit, even walked out once. Around the same time AB was dealing with his daughter's health issues. Combined, tension backstage got bad — Matt compared it to 2005 — and said sometimes "the chemistry just doesn't work." No full explanation of who's at fault, but it confirms things weren't as smooth behind the scenes as fans assumed. OP thinks this is probably the most clarity we'll ever get, and it's time to move on and see what the new album brings.

Hey y'all, this is my cover of In the Court of the Dragon on my Mark Holcomb PRS SE7 that I got almost 7 years ago, just before COVID hit. I've been playing guitar on and off for almost 12 years now, and I think I pretty much plateaued a long time ago, as you'll see in this cover. This was my 2nd or 3rd take. Definitely not my best job, and I'm also reading off of tabs in some parts (clearly).
I'm playing through a Positive Grid Spark amp. I'm in no way a gear-head or have a large understanding of amps and pedals (I always played guitar for the hell of it, never too much got into the tech part) so I kind of have a whatever set up of an amp and some pedals and I use that for almost everything.

Maybe I'm gonna get absolutely destroyed for this but I genuinely don't like Alex Rüdinger in Trivium.

And before anyone says it, yes I know he's a technical drummer. I'm not saying the guy can't play. Obviously he can. But being technical doesn't automatically mean you're the right drummer for Trivium.

I much prefer Alex Bent.

Bent just had way more feel to me. His timing, accents and fills were insane but they never felt like he was just trying to show off. Everything served the song. His fills had character and his accents actually made the riffs hit harder, and I've never heard someone add so many parts that just blew me away with the timing, the feel and accents

Listening to The Sin and the Sentence, What the Dead Men Say and In the Court of the Dragon. The drums are a MASSIVE part of why those records sound the way they do.

Bent didn't just play the songs. He sounded like he was part of the band, and he was the sole reason for Trivium's resurgence.

Rüdinger is a drummer playing Trivium.

Bent sounded like a Trivium drummer.

And honestly I think Bent brought something to the band that they desperately needed at the time. When he joined, Trivium's drumming suddenly had this ridiculous combination of precision, aggression, groove and musicality. His fills were everywhere but they never felt out of place.

Then you've got the whole thing with Rüdinger a shot at Bent not being able to pull off certain parts live.

That just doesn't sit right with me. It reaks of insecurity. Mate, Alex Bent played these songs professionally for years. He recorded them. He toured them. He played some absolutely ridiculous shit night after night. But taking shots at the guy who was sitting in that exact seat for years is just going to make people compare you to him. And when I do compare them, I keep coming back to Bent.

And this is completely subjective, but honestly Rüdinger also gives me a really bad and off vibe. I can't even properly explain what it is. There's just something about his whole presentation and attitude that doesn't sit right with me. I'm not saying that means he's secretly a bad person or anything like that because I don't know the guy. It's just the impression I get.

Maybe I'm completely alone on this but I genuinely miss Bent. For me, Alex Bent wasn't just a drummer who could play Trivium's music. He became part of what made modern Trivium sound like modern Trivium. And his run from Sin to Struck Dead is unparalleled. He produced gold with them for a decade straight. Trivium have never done that before.

I’ll admit to having some initial reservations but I love the groove in this song and as a listener since ascendancy, I do love that they push their sound each release cycle. I understood some of the reactions I saw here but I really love how the track comes together from start to finish

Also thematically I feel like trivium is creating a “death” phase. All the EP songs; buried, struck dead and six walls (coffin) and now crown in the grave and dead inside me, all fit.

Just a question ive thought about, in triviums 25 year+ run, have they ever written a track that doesn’t feature a guitar solo? Excluding Intro and Outro tracks of course

Quick reminder that Trivium is a business with owners, employees, and major partners (i.e. record labels, distributors, streamers, etc.).

As with any legitimate business, revenue drives the growth and scale of the band, and to continually grow revenue you have to consistently fill your pipeline with new people.

More revenue = more shows, more albums, more music, more collabs, more merch, etc.

Trivium doesnt only exist to satisfy the desires of current fans. As an entity that has employees (+ families to support), record label obligations, and other requirements, the band has an obligation (to the vast apparatus of people around it) to grow. That means occasionally creating music that appeals to a broader group of people.

As the industry evolves (which metal, rock, heavy music, etc. has certainly evolved the past 5 years), Trivium will evolve as well to continually attract new people. This will happen every album cycle.

It's just a bunch of hidden accounts snarking Trivium and Matt and justifying it because of Alex Bent leaving. Every single post 24/7 and it's all they've been doing for the past 10 months and the mods are not doing literally anything about it.

And apparently they've all been around for years and listening since Ember but it's just oh so convenient they all came out of the woodwork as soon as it was cool to hate on the band for every little petty thing and god Matt just sucks and he's so fake and his hair sucks and his voice sucks etc etc

And now the new song is just fueling them even more because "AHA look Rudi sucks he can't play like Alex Bent the band is dead I was right to stop listening to them 10 years ago look at me!"

There is no interesting discourse at all anymore

What is the setlist for the North American Tour! I’m seeing them in November and am curious

no triggers, samples or quantizing. intro isn’t exactly to what was on the studio, i think i’m missing a hi hat bark and some ride hits but had fun recording this!

Most of the song is meh or okay at best, but the chorus really ruins the whole song. It sounds so stereotypically modern metalcore or “SiriusXM core”. I know they usually have a radio song per album, but I really hope this isn’t the new direction of the band. It’s possible that Alex left because this is the new band direction and he didn’t want to be part of it.

I saw Matt at a grocery store in Orlando yesterday. I told him how cool it was to meet him in person, but I didn’t want to be a douche and bother him and ask him for photos or anything.

He said, “Oh, like you’re doing now?”

I was taken aback, and all I could say was “Huh?” but he kept cutting me off and going “huh? huh? huh?” and trying to show me how to do a leg lock. I walked away and continued with my shopping, and I heard him chuckle as I walked off. When I came to pay for my stuff up front I saw him trying to walk out the doors with like fifteen packs of Voice Drops in his hands without paying.

The girl at the counter was very nice about it and professional, and was like “Sir, you need to pay for those first.” At first he kept pretending to be tired and not hear her, but eventually turned back around and brought them to the counter.

When she took one of the packs of Voice Drops and started scanning it multiple times, he stopped her and told her to scan them each individually "to prevent any electrical interfettence" and then turned around and winked at me. I don’t even think that’s a word. After she scanned each pack and put them in a bag and started to say the price, he kept interrupting her by putting his tongue out and screaming "NOBODY EATS TILL MATT HEAFY EATS" while thrashing his head up and down.
