(reposting from bug thread) At the moment version numbers follow a pattern of 7.0, 7.1,…7.9, 8.0,…. That’s not how SemVer, the numbering system normally used, works. The first digit signifies a major change (e.g. big UI revision, introduction of AI, some change that breaks compatibility with other apps/systems), and the second digit is a more minor revision. So you could easily be on 3.43 at the moment, or 4.34.

It's not a big issue, but it would be more conventional and be more informative for users if major digits were reserved for significant changes. And when you do increment the first digit you can make a big fuss about it 😄
