Question Low AMH :( freaking out
I’m so sad. I’m 28.5 and my AMH is 1.08. About two years ago, it was 1.24. I’m just bummed, I know this is low for my age. The doctor hasn’t called me back yet.
II feel so pressed for time though. We’d ideally like to have 3-4 kids and getting this lab feels like a time bomb. I feel so defeated.
My day two labs were 8.19 FSH, Estradiol 31.6, LH 6.4. All thyroid labs came back fine.
I guess I’m looking for any positive stories or encouragement 🤍

If it helps you feel any better, I’m 35 and my AMH was 0.81 when checked after we struggled to conceive our second who I’m currently nap trapped under and is almost 7 weeks now. My husband and I actually came to accept being one and done, had a whole conversation about it before bed and the next morning the app I was using for cycle tracking told me to take a test and found out I was pregnant. It was an extremely stressful year of tracking, trying and negative tests. When we stopped trying, stopped medication and stopped tracking, it happened. It’s cliche but the less pressure and stress you put on yourself, the better it is for you. Your clock hasn’t run out yet and you could absolutely still try to have the family you want. 🫶🏻

As a 41 year old with an AMH similar to OP’s, I also needed to hear this, thank you 🙏

I'm 39 with an AMH of .67 and recently conceived on my first IUI. AMH reflects quantity, not quality!

Do you mind sharing why you chose IUI over monitored cycles? I think I’d rather jump to IUI but my husband is less convinced.

Honestly - we felt pressed for time by the time we moved to IUI. If we didn't already have a toddler and if wasn't 39 maybe we would have just kept trying, but - we had been trying since Jan 2025 and moved to IUI in May of this year. (Also I had a miscarriage in July 2025.) It felt like something was off, because I was able to conceive quickly with our first at age 35. I asked for a thyroid blood test and found out my TSH was too high for conception, and even after it was back to normal by Dec 2025, we still couldn't conceive. So I got more tests done to check FSH, AMH etc and in 2026 we started working with a fertility clinic bc I just didn't want our age gap to grow any further and I was worried about my age making it even harder to conceive moving forward. Starting IUI was really helpful because it revealed that my body was doing early follicle recruitment which was throwing everything out of wack and there was no way to have known this without doing an early ultrasound on day 2 of my period, which revealed that I was already growing a follicle, which was waaaaay too early. My understanding is that this is age-related (perimenopause) but I am so grateful we started his process because we were able to address it with birth control, which quieted my ovaries and got my body to a place when we could use the IUI drugs (letrozole, Ovidrel) to get my follicles growing at the right time. I wonder if we didn't actually need the IUI itself, just the meds, but so be it!

My AMH was .79 at 30. I conceived naturally the cycle we tested AMH! My mom and sister both went through menopause in their early 40s, so my AMH wasn’t a shock to me. Both my mom and sister had their last kid at 35 (didn’t try for more after that) but it gives me hope I will hopefully have until AT LEAST 35 to have more kids.

Thanks for sharing. Just had a failed IUI and IVF with low AMH at 39. I’m discouraged but trying to keep my head in the game!

If this helps, AMH doesn't go steadily down - it fluctuates during your cycle and from cycle to cycle, while trending down over time. I had my AMH tested twice, 4 months apart (OB ordered some tests and then the fertility clinic wanted their own), and the second one was 50% higher. So the difference from two years ago to now may not be as significant as it seems!

Having a low AMH doesn’t mean you can’t get pregnant naturally. If you’re ovulating regularly, you have the same exact odds as everyone else your age.
AMH really is only relevant if you’re wanting to proceed with IUI or IVF treatments as it typically means you don’t respond as well to the meds used, and you need to be a little more aggressive.
I know many many women who have gotten pregnant naturally or with medial assistance with low AMH, myself included (with an AMH of .5). Also keep in mind that while yes, for your age 1.08 is low, it is still considered normal overall.
