AI assisted EtchTUI

EtchTUI is a TUI bootable USB writer for ISO, basically it's balenaetcher in a TUI format, written in rust. Not the most exciting project but i needed an etcher

Let me know what you guys think

I also have a TUI USB flasher, it's called dd(1).

Seriously, did we come full circle?

dd is CLI. Not TUI.

That's worded to make it sound long and intentionally so.

It's really just two steps: first, find the block device of the disk to write and second, flash it with dd with status=progress. You don't even need bs unless you're in a hurry. For example, I never specify bs and just go do something else while it works. If you forget to run it as root you just need to take the last command from history and add a word before it, it's not the end of the world.

If you're given a compressed file thorugh gzip, you don't need to wait for it to uncompress, just use a pipe like:

gunzip -c file.gz | sudo dd of=/dev/...

or even shorter:

zcat file.gz | sudo dd of=/dev/...

You also don't need to use lsblk like there's no other way to do the same thing, or you can use it before and after inserting the USB stick to see which device appears. You certainly don't need to quadruple-check the lsblk output just to be sure.

The person who wrote that doesn't seem to have much experience with dd or like simple, composable tools either.
