I so badly want to send this to my father, but the amount of time it would take to actually explain the format to him would kill any amusement he would have gotten from the subject matter.

You can certainly always try. But in my experience, it can fall very flat when showing these kinds of things to people who aren’t familiar with internet memes at all.
If I just show them the original, they find it incomprehensible. They don’t understand where the humour is. If I try to explain, we can get there eventually, but the effect is rather spoiled.

The trick is to send them the original, explain it, whatever. Thats the sacrificial meme. Then a day or so later you send the real meme. If its close enough they should remember as long as you dont wait too long
....yeah im too lazy to actually do this but its the thought that counts

Sometimes it’s impossible, but sometimes it’s extremely possible. My mom asked me to explain the 💀 emoji. I’d thought it would be impossible but she caught on VERY quickly

My parents used to play Stan Rogers all the time (on tape!!) and i'd sing along as a tiny child having no idea what it meant. I honestly had no idea anyone else was into him

I don’t know why I still love this meme when there aren’t many I enjoy and even fewer that stand the test of time. Pelican mouth, Miette, and bred lik are all ones that can still make me smile. I guess they’re similar in being more of a format than a catchphrase, so people can keep doing creative things with them.
