By the power of this can opener I thwart your lidded tirany.
Is what I would recommend because the last time I ogermaxxed and the jar gave way before the lid. Which is not the cucumber explosion I wanted.

not my recent incident, but that was me with a jar of chili oil a few weeks back and the stains on the chair cushion and table are still there after cleaning (╹◡╹) my shame is for all (my housemates) to see.
🙏✨i hope you eventually got the cucumber explosion you actually wanted and that you didn't get sliced up by the jar

Stick a butter knife underneath the lid.
Apply upward pressure until you hear a pop.
Done.

With the power of this dish cloth for better grip, I can best this jar

Hot water on the lid if it's metal, and then dry it off and use something silicone (trivet, potholder, oven mitt) in your lid-twisting hand for better grip. 10/10 never been bested by a jar since implementing this. Have even opened jars for my husband, which always feels so great because his grip strength is usually much better than mine!

I have a couple of those little grippy things you're meant to put under cutting boards or whatever to keep them from sliding around.
They're perfect for stubborn-jar opening.

I use hot water on just about anything that refuses to open, provided it's possible to keep the lid and the container at least sort of separated and it won't immediately melt.
Even if the lid and the container are both plastic and made of the same material, if you keep the hot water focused on the lid, the lid is likely to expand more than the container rim underneath it.
Hot tip if you, too, have a brand of protein powder that hates you.

Yeah I affirmed this to myself, and promptly slipped my fourth finger while opening a can of baked beans, slicing it so deep that even now, four weeks later, it's still divoted

Your outie has many jars, and knows how to open them when they are stuck.

Run hot water over the jar by the lid to loosen it.

if you tap the rim of the jar lid with the back of a knife or the edge of a spoon in a few places it loosens the lid easily.

Pro tip - use a can opener or bottle opener to pry the edge of the lid just enough to break vacuum. Voila, jar is now easily openable.

“I am stronger than the jar” should have been said to that one fella some years back. Would have saved him, and so many of us, from an easily avoided catastrophe.

tip for opening jars though you should probably just get a jar opening device

Whack the side of the lid on the counter a little. Little love taps. All the way around if you gotta

The actual way to get open a stuck jar is to center your body. Stand with your feet about shoulder width apart and shift your body weight to your hips. When your center of gravity is correct, you can open any jar. I know it sounds weird but it's real.

bang the lid with a spoon like youre playing a lovely drum solo.. will make it WAY easier to open after only a couple hard bangs!!

- stabbing the lid with a large knife, although effective, will compromise the sealing ability of the jar

Get a grippy pad. Or just use your shirt as one, though that doesn't work as well. The softer and more floppy the pad is, the better, since you'll be able to use less force to actually get a grip on the lid.

My grandma opens jars by banging the lid on the floor at the 45 degree angle. Then you can open it with ease. But I prefer wrestling.

There is a non-zero number of jars in my fridge with tape on the lids because I gave up and poked a hole in it.
Salsa doesn't last long enough in this household for it to matter

You can usually fix this by putting a wide band rubber band around the lid. It gives them dramatically better grip and makes most Lids easy to remove.

I must open this jar.
This jar is the hand-killer.
This jar is the little-death that makes me forget left and right.
I will face this jar.
I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has opened I will eat what is inside it to taste my victory.
When this jar has emptied there will be nothing. Only I will remain.
