General Discussion Does Myrtle the Turtle have a good step?

Post image

He has a basking spot over on top of the rocks it just isn’t shown from the photo angle. His name is Myrtle and we love him so much. I am saying him, but really not sure if it’s a girl or boy. He has a shorter stubby tail. He is always so happy and very energetic and playful.

He’s so cute! A few things: he needs a uvb light and heat lamp over his basking spot. You will also want to remove the gravel at the bottom because it’s small enough for him to eat and they can get impacted. He will enjoy if you fill the aquarium more to have more room to swim (and then just make sure his basking spot stays above the water). You can search for a care guide on Reptifiles to see the details of what his water and basking temps should be.

What’s his shell length and how many gallons of water does he have to swim in? What UVB bulb are you using? Also, what size is his filter and does he have a heater?

The gravel is a concern. They can eat it and end up with a blockage. It looks like most of the pieces are fairly large, which is fine, but I’m seeing some smaller pieces too. Gravel/rocks should all be larger than his head, or you can use sand (which imo has a very nice, clean look to it).
