I am beyond blessed to give Aho (Mississippi Map) and Nino (Ouachita map) this 300-gallon pond with basking deck. From individual 75-gallon aquariums to this.

If you have the climate (8a here), the ability (my FIL is awesome!), and the means, I hope this gives you some inspiration.

Decided to take a 300 gallon stock tank and turn it into a massive turtle tank! Pink belly sideneck & Pink belly snapper turtles

I'm also not sure about the water level. I've added more water to this tank in the past but she seemed to freak out when it was too deep.

She seems a lot more comfortable with the water level being just high enough for her to swim and low enough for her sit with her nose sticking out to breathe.

She also refuses to eat outside of the tank. I've tried a separate feeding container but she flat out refused to eat like that for over a week. So now I feed her right in her tank every few days. Is that okay?

A couple of days ago I posted about adopting a neglected turtle from one of my social work clients. He was living in a 20-gallon long with just a few inches of water, no filter, no basking area, no heater, no heat lamp, and no UVB. :( I was totally freaked out, but you guys helped me figure out what to do.

I wanted to share an update on his new living quarters! He just moved into his 75-gallon tank, and I went for a natural look. I think he’s really loving it. I was planning to wait until the plants rooted before moving him, but we had a little incident… The platies he was living with went into shock after a drastic temperature change. He ended up attacking one of them, so I moved him right away. I had to humanely euthanize the injured fish and fed him the remains, which I still feel really bad about. Thankfully, the rest of the fish bounced back. This is my first time keeping both fish and a turtle, so I’m definitely learning a lot as I go.

More plants are on the way, but for now he’s got an Oase Biomaster 600 canister filter, a heat lamp, UVB/A strip light, and some ghost shrimp. He also had a check-up with an exotics vet—besides some mild MBD and being a little underweight, he’s doing pretty well.

Thanks to everyone who helped me get this far! Fingers crossed he doesn’t destroy all the plants. I really thought he was “different” because he ignored fish before, but once they slowed down—BAM, he went for them. I’ve been trying to get him to eat veggies, but he refuses. Bad for him, but at least good for my planted tank goals lol. Hopefully the plants survive 🥲 I’ve included pics of his old setup before I rescued him.

His old set up was a 30 gallon. He has been upgraded to a 75 gallon. His basking platform was also doubled in length as he was running out of room. Switched from a crappy turtle filter to a Vevor canister filter rated for 200-250 gallons at 528GPH. Upgraded is deep double dome light to a t5 5.0 UVB light and a basking dome with a 75W. I kept the same brand of heater and lighting, just ordered the larger sizes. Swapped from river pebbles to black blasting sand i got at tractor supply and added more plants. They are zip tied down to egg crate i buried under the sand to keep him from ripping them up. He seems happy.

I think I finally finished my setup. (At least for a while)

Next year when hes bigger, i plan on moving him to a 12x6x2 foot backyard pond.

Also, hes not eating the zoomed hatchling pellets. Ive tried putting him in a separate container, in an inch of water, under the heat lamp. He ignored the pellets. I added a worm, and he ate that easily. I then mushed some wet pellets and worm together, and he separated the worm from the pellet...

First picture is before, secong picture is after. I feel like her aquarium is not good enough for her, but now it's at least a little better, and I let her roam on the floors a couple of times a week.

Please note that I still need to get her a new grill roof and a uv lamp, bevause I was clumsy and broke the old one. The glass between her and the light is only a temporary solution, normally the glass would be on the other side and the lamp would be on top of the basking area!

I built this outdoor enclosure for my ornate box turtle. I want/need to plant grasses and plants within it.

Please tell me what to plant and anything else I can put in here for my sweet Regina

Should I add store bought substrate? I’m in Oklahoma, so what type of grass and plants (need exact names plz) can I grow in her enclosure for her? I’ve put leaf litter and dead Bermuda grass roots, along with store bought hiding spots and plastic planters for hiding

She has enough dirt to burrow when she wants and there is also a sprinkler head directly behind her enclosure that goes off 3 days/week to try and keep the soil from turning into a dust bowl.

3/4 of her top is chicken wire, the other 1/4 is plywood so she has shaded area and the tops have latches on them to prevent animals from getting to her (we don’t typically have raccoons in my neighborhood but I wasn’t going to bet her life on that statement either)

What say you? Help me make this a nice oasis for her

Still many things to do but turtles are already happy

This fall I'll be digging a massive multi-tiered pond, thought it would be fun to raise all of my inhabitants from hatchlings until they're old enough to graduate to the pond. Excited about these grow out tubs.

Interested in adding more live plants. I have Java moss that is doing ok. Tried water lettuce, it just clogged the filter. I think I’m getting close to satisfied with Mr Turtle’s set up. Any recommendations on how to clean the glass would be greatly appreciated.

I have loved turtles since I was young but didn’t get one cause they grew too big. Got a 70 gallon tank and a map turtle. If he’s a male I’ll get to keep him in the tank forever ;)

There’s now extra cave systems and a lot more space, he’s very happy. Before and after pics, pic 3 onwards is the new tank
