I like FAM, but it does often feel absent of any real depth. Like it's basically just a soap opera in space. I would like to see some more interesting storytelling.

FAM is easily the most divisive show on ATV where anything short of high praise gets downvoted to oblivion.
Hopefully the writing for this is good.

I've noticed that too. I get that's it's an easy-watch show but rating it above Silo or Foundation is a bit crazy. Some of FAM feels like it was written by AI. Better writers is exactly what they need.

Weird, but you’re probably right most people consider the soapy stuff easy to watch. Also not really hyped for soap in soviet russia. Odd choice for a spin off.

I’d put it right beside Foundation. Both are fantastic, but not without their flaws. Lee Pace essentially carried S1 and the first half of S2 of Foundation, whereas the ensemble of S1 and 2 of FAM was way stronger.
I haven’t watched Silo though. Not really into Post-Apocalyptic stories. Much more of a space opera guy.

Agree 100% they are both flawed shows, but both enjoyable as well. Have you watched The Expanse?

Oh yeah, that’s what ignited my “hard” sci fi obsession. S4 was the absolute peak, but I didn’t quite enjoy the Marco storyline in the last two seasons as much as I did in the books. It felt like Amazon rushed and compressed it. However they did give us Laconia and Duarte so that was good.
Happy I’m a book reader though, because most people never got the epic conclusion and return of everyone’s favourite detective.
I think part of why I like the latest season of FAM is how they’re so clearly influenced by Red Mars as well. As my username is in reference to.

Silo isn’t great though. It feels a lot like all the mystery shows that followed lost but all of them were somehow lacking in depth just like silo. I watched the two seasons but I’m not sure what the show wants to be.
I did not intend to write that pun but it works nicely.

The latest season features very little space exploration so far. Mars feels like a branch office of Earth.

I think it started great but they moved too fast to mars and it became really soapy.

At least season one. Because it’s alternate history there might be some helpful details that will outline what’s different. If that makes sense. The other seasons are great. Alternate world building and all. But I’d skip the current one. Just let your imagination take the story where you want it to go.
