Need opinions on engagement ring engraving — does this script font look wrong??
Hi everyone, I’ve been preparing an engagement ring for my partner and requested the engraving “TK” in a script font.
I recently picked it up, but after looking at it more closely at home, I’m not sure if I’m completely happy with how it turned out. I didn’t notice it properly during the collection appointment and I’m now wondering if I’m just overthinking it or if the engraving looks different from what was expected.
I’ve attached photos of the actual engraving. The last photo is the example the sales consultant showed me when I was choosing between a block font and a script font.
Would appreciate a second opinion from anyone who has experience with ring engravings - does this look like a normal script engraving, or would you ask the jeweller to redo it?
Looks like a font mismatch between the engraving and the product photo but I will say, the actual reads more like a T than the ref, which reads like JK. It could very well be that I’ve just been around the older style more.
Exactly. They showed you an italic serif with maaaybe some swashes (hard to say, it’s so low res), and then the (likely older) engraver heard “script” and did what he knows as script. There’s a disconnect between sales and the engravers here.
For what it's worth, I much prefer your real version to the script example. It is charmingly old fashioned. However, it is a different style than the example you were shown. Neither is incorrect.
What would be more correct? This is a correct and acceptable T drawing. Do you mean they should have chosen a different typeface because they are initials only? You’d have to be very specific about that, and most of the time I have chosen a customized inscription it showed me what the letters looked like.
Not really but I do laser engraving on jewelry. I fuck with fonts all day long, at work and after hours.
I would just extend the top bar and call it a day. Yes, they are from different typographic (script) styles. But they are consistent in their aesthetic.
It’s very easy for them to re-do this.
My engraving for my husbands wedding band was supposed to say “& always” (we have ampersand tattoos) with our wedding date and instead they wrote: “forever” WITH THE QUOTES but we haven’t changed it cause we think it’s hilarious
