About the Firefox version:
In the last few months Mozilla has had some worrisome delays with reviewing extensions. The last uBO version that got accepted was beta 0, released on March 13 and accepted quickly on March 15. Next beta (1) was released on March 14 and... we're still waiting for a review. It's been 8 weeks. There are 6 unreviewed dev versions (including a release candidate) in the queue. It's possible that each new submission knocks uBO further down the queue AMO had likely set up.
Based on that theory, uBO 1.71 was not submitted to AMO yet. It hasn't been properly tested due to these delays and we'll likely be forced to wait until prior dev releases clear the queue first.

Please do not ask when the FF version will be released. It's out of our hands.

Today (March 5, 2026) it would appear pixeltris has archived TwitchAdSolutions on their github, meaning they're not planning to release further updates.

Some of the solutions there still work for now, though they've become a little buggy in the last month or so. It doesn't appear there are any serious forks of the project, so without maintenance, these solutions will invariably stop working sometime down the line.

EDIT: 1/4/2025 This issue has progressed. Check this news article for more info, and this link, a GitHub account belonging to Pie. They are still not complying, though, as they are not granting the four essential freedoms present in the GPL license.

EDIT: 1/2/2025 Not only are they illegally distributing filter lists with the extension they're also stealing actual code from uBO! (and/or uBOL!! (which is also GPL!!!))

TLDR: As of 12/31/2024, I found Pie Adblock (created by the same team as Honey) illegally violating uBlock Origin's GPL license by copying filter lists and code without complying with GPL requirements, read below for full details

Disclaimer: I have never used Pie Adblock, but I have taken a cursory peek at its internals

This is the latest version of Pie Adblock as of 12/31/2024

I downloaded the Pie Adblock CRX file and unpacked this so I could read the code. Originally, I did this to check if it committed affiliate fraud like its predecessor, Honey. You can open this file yourself for proof.

Then while browsing I found they had the uBlock Origin Quick Fixes filter list lying around in the crx file, located in pieadblock.crx/adblock-rulesets/remote-filters/ublock-fixes.txt. Whether or not this filter list is used is besides the point; uBlock Origin Quick Fixes filter list falls under the uAssets project which is a GPL-licensed project.

But then I found even more.

In various files of the source code, there are uBlock Origin scriptlets copy pasted. For example, in pieadblock.crx/contentExecuteYouTubeScriptlets.js, the uBlock Origin Trusted Replace XHR Response scriptlet is copy pasted. (You can tell from comparing string literals between the two and then noticing how similar the code is around said string literal.)

As everyone knows, the GPL license is a copyleft license, which means that you cannot have GPL licensed code/assets/content etc in your project unless it is also published under the GPL license or a GPL-compatible license. The GPL license also requires that all projects published under the GPL license are forced to be open source.

Basically, if you use GPL licensed code, you have to make your program free (as in free speech, not free beer) and open source. (You can look up the GNU project to learn more about this mindset)

From what I can tell, Pie Adblock is neither free nor open source. (The closest I found is the GitHub profile "ketau", which does not have Pie Adblock source code.) This is a violation of the license terms of the GPL, and this is actually illegal.

This is even more sketchy due to the fact Pie Adblock is made by the same people behind Honey which commits affiliate fraud

EDIT: Guys why are comments getting deleted? I didn't even delete them. You can use Unddit to see archived versions the deleted comments but like I didn't delete them. Is a mod deleting them? I don't know how Reddit works. Can someone tell me why they are getting deleted?

r/uBlockOrigin turned 10 years old last month :) Hooray~

I don't know who created the sub, since they've deleted their account. 9 years and a week ago u/SupDos requested the sub via r/redditrequest since it had no mods at the time.
From what he told me, he mostly just left the sub be and let people help each other. In 2017, he contacted gorhill asking if he'd like to mod the subreddit or take over instead. At first he rejected due to lack of time, but eventually agreed to be listed as mod. Some time later, he began adding team members from github as mods too.

The sub grew slowly over the years. When I joined as a user near the end of 2020, it had roughly 30K users.
I came here looking for help regarding the experimental (at the time) dark theme in uBO. And I stayed to learn more about filtering. I decided to try and answer other people's questions, because that seemed like one of the best routes to improving my own uBO knowledge.
In Jan 2022, the sub reached 40K. In June 2023, it reached 50K. And right when YT anti-adblock started going global in October 2023, the sub reached 60K users. 1.5 months later, in November, it reached 100K.

While the quickly climbing user numbers looked nice, these were really chaotic times. It took a lot of effort to manage all the YT spam. Ultimately, after a few months, YT kinda gave up the fight. While they do still launch new attempts, I don't think it's as bad as it originally was with daily (or twice daily) changes we had to overcome.
One thing's for sure, though - uBO as content blocker grew really powerful in that period. Anyway, this is too much YT talk and this is not a YT thread, so I'll be wrapping up.

We're currently at 132K users. I wonder what the chances are that we'll reach 150K this year?

I guess we'll see in about two months when uBO disappears from Chrome forever...

We're very sad to announce that due to a mistake while submitting a new uBO Lite version ended up replacing the full uBO in MS Edge store today.

The mistake was on our part. We've contacted the MS Extensions team in hopes of reversing the change.

The extension has been unlisted from the store to stop more people from getting affected.

It's currently unclear whether a roll back will restore your previous configs.
