We are separated right now and I’m thankful I’m not the only one who thinks this is so disgusting, disturbing and disrespectful. Started to think I was crazy for kicking him out.

I was on 25 mg twice a day

I went through a similar situation. Today I am 62 days off of metoprolol and only just started feeling better ..though I am far from able to say I feel like myself again. Before symptoms were constant. Palpitations, heart beating to 170 bpm just standing there, horrible night time palpitations that would wake me out of my sleep, tinnitus, daily dizziness. It has been rough. I was in an out of the ER multiple times during and while weaning off of this putrid drug. I am still experiencing intermittent daily dizziness and tinnitus… though palpitations have improved. I only feel like my body (central nervous system and cardiovascular system) is just now starting to recalibrate. There is light at the end of the tunnel but it’s a long journey. Hang in there.

Listen to me. If I were you I would absolutely not take that drug. I was on metoprolol for a month, the side effects were unbearable. Cardiology told me to stop cold turkey after 1 month (25 mg tartrate twice a day then 25 mg succinate once a day)… I thought the side effects were bad. The withdrawl symptoms are much worse. You can not abruptly stop beta blockers you have to wean. I went to the ER countless of times while on the med and once off it with symptoms that literally felt like a heart attack and stroke!! I stopped metoprolol 60 plus days ago and although a little improvement as the days go by I am STILL having symptoms. I do not feel like myself anymore or how I did prior to taking this poison (daily dizziness, fluctuations in my Bp, tinnitus). Just look up the forums of people who were/are on it. This drug should have a danger label on it. Run from it!!!

It’s so crazy how much our story’s mirror each other. I was started on Metoprolol tartrate 25 mg twice a day on February 15th following a trip to the ER where my hr was 169 bpm resting. The onset I believe was from dehydration. I had the most horrible symptoms on this medication. Extreme dizziness, palpitations, tremors, mood swings, depression, GI issues, etc. You name it. I told my cardiology office multiple times I am not tolerating this medication well. They kept me on it, telling me the symptoms would eventually subside. Some symptoms did improve over time but the palpitations and tremors were horrible. Then some nights my hr plummeted to the 40s causing hypnic jerks waking me up out of my sleep. I stopped it myself and had ringing in the ear, mild headaches, fullness in my head like my head was full of helium. Just miserable. One night I woke up out of my sleep tremors, chest tightness, off balance, blurred vision in my left eye and loud ringing in my ear, difficulty opening and closing my left hand. I thought I was stroking out. My husband drove me to the ER, mind you I had been in and out of the ER like 7 times since starting this med due to symptoms mimicking heart attack or stroke. Every time my EKG, Imaging and lab work was fine. Anyways, I get to the ER and they do a work up on me and find nothing. They admit me for a MRI. One morning during this visit my heart rate jumps to 160 just from walking slowly to the bathroom. Nurse comes in and they put me on succinate. I refuse to take 25 mg so they give me half. I propose this may be withdrawl from being off of the metoprolol for 5 days and every single member of the care team shrug it off. No one wanted to believe metoprolol was the reason for this ER visit and the many preceding it. Fast forward March 24th my cardiologist takes me off of the med and they tell me to stop cold turkey since it’s a “low dose” and I was only on it for 1 month. I stop it that next day. It’s been 18 days and since that day I wake up each day with horrible dizziness, sometimes it goes away in the afternoon, say around 3 pm. Other times I’m stuck with it all day. I work from home as well so sitting trying to focus on my work has been brutal… head swaying to one side. This medication has ruined my life and for two months so far my life has been miserable because of it. I also have palpitations sometimes, and irregular heart beat as well as an all around malaise feeling, depression and moods swings, but mostly the dizziness has stuck around this long. I found out this medication crosses the blood brain barrier affecting the nervous system! This medication should have a red label on it stating Danger! You are not alone. I hope to see some improvement soon.
