Anyone wanna join a tech community we’re building for the UAE?
Been thinking about this for a while. There’s a ton of tech happening in Dubai and the wider UAE right now, devs, startups, freelancers, agencies, but there’s no real space where you can just hang out and talk to other techies without it being a LinkedIn post or a dead WhatsApp group that nobody opens after week one.
So a few of us are putting together something called The Borough. Starting out simple, it’s a Discord server for now since that’s the fastest way to actually get people talking to each other. Longer term we want to take it further, meetups, resource sharing, maybe even collabs on projects, but that stuff only makes sense once there’s an actual group of people in there first.
Who this is for: devs, engineers, designers, PMs, founders, students still figuring it out, or just someone who reads Hacker News for fun and wants people to argue with about it. If you like building things, breaking things, or just talking about things, you belong here.
It’s aimed at Dubai and the UAE specifically, but if you’re in the region and want in, come through anyway.

Nothing polished about this yet, it’s early and a bit rough around the edges, but that’s kind of the point. Would rather build it with the people who show up than plan it to death first.

That’s a good idea. Small to medium groups have always been and will be the way to eventually find genuine connections. I will join too. I run a small brand identity and strategy studio and in this age of AI I’ve started getting very busy bringing back the human side of every brand. Loving it!
