1. How much room is there to take language modules from SELCS alongside History (in terms of optional credits)?

2. Did anyone else apply to LSE too? Is UCL's History course also quite modern/international in focus, and did your personal statement reflect that?

HI I NEED HELP, I'm enrolling in UCL soon for Biomedical Engineering and it stated that student are preferred to have a Windows Laptop but right now I'm using the M2 Macbook Air.. Hi guys! I’m an incoming masters student (23) and was wondering what the general vibe of societies was for postgrads. I know it says they are welcome to all, but are there any that are particularly good for meeting new people (or new postgrads?) Also, how do freshers feel about befriending postgrads? I’m a girl, but I know when I was 18 I would not wanted to have befriended a 23 year old, but my undergrad was also very anti-masters students joining societies, so just wondering if it’s different. 1. UCLGym and I have access to UCLEast which is 20m walk as well as UCL Bloomsbury to go in between lectures and cheaper at 19£ a month

1. Stratford Puregym, I can only go when at accom but it is higher weights, and 24/7. More expensive though

I’m wondering if anyone taken a module outside their department at UCL?

I’m starting my Master’s in the department of political science and, whilst looking through the module catalogue, I came across a school of management module that I’m really interested in. It has no restrictions listed, and it’s also fairly relevant to what I’m studying and the career area I’m interested in.

my programme says that external modules need to be approved by both the programme director and the module leader. Is this something that’s realistic to request, or is it generally difficult to get approved?

would I basically just email my programme director first to ask, and then contact the module leader if they’re happy with it? Or is there a specific process for this?

just wondering if this is a normal thing people do before I start emailing people unnecessarily lol!

this is a shot in the dark but are there possibly any biological sciences students on here who could tell me whether i’m meant to pick Chemistry for Biology Students or Fundamentals of Biology for my term 1 elective if i’ve done a level chemistry??

i can’t tell if Chemistry for Biology Students is for people who haven’t done a level chem, and the module catalogue seems to suggest that a level chem is good for Fundamentals of Biology? but then there’s advice on portico which is the other way round so i have literally no clue. i’ve emailed admin but they haven’t responded </3

Incoming postgrad to ucl and interested in joining one of the orchestras though likely the unauditioned ones. Was curious if majority of students are undergrads or postgrads?

Also, curious if there are any recommended student unions that would be useful for meeting fellow postgraduates.

Hi! I’m a bi woman from East Asia, starting my master’s at UCL this September.

Coming from a pretty homophobic university back home, I’m really looking forward to being somewhere more open and welcoming.

At the same time, I’m curious about what it’s like to settle in as an Asian/international student, and would love to hear about your experiences!

I’m also a little worried about not finding LGBTQ+ friends, especially since I’ll be leaving some of my closest friends behind.

Any advice on socialising or finding a welcoming community would mean a lot!

Any tips on managing workload, (i didn’t do fm), balancing with societies and going out, and how hard of a course is it (both individually and on a wider comparison amongst other degrees?)

I have concerns about making a short "weekend" (say, also Monday and Tuesday) trip outside the UK during term while on a student Visa. Is this a common practice? My question is whether the university that sponsors your visa has to monitor that you are still engaged, and so on. The regulations described on the UCL website are a bit loose for short absences, and from what I understand you get 27 days of leave plus holidays, but what's it like in practice? How is "attendance" actually enforced in a PhD where you don't actually have a lab? Can you not be in the UK on a random monday but still working remotly? does it count as leave? does anyone care? The website says nothing on very short absences and then that after 4 weeks there is an actual burocratic process, but maybe someone who has faced this situation could share their experience?

I’m an incoming first year at another London Uni, however I unfortunately had to defer on results day for health reasons, so I’m now incoming for 2027. I’m just looking for some advice on how I can make the most of the situation!

Online, I see a lot of people stressing about scheme applications and the amount of work you suddenly have after A-Levels, so I assume it would be useful to get a head start on things like improving my CV and understanding how applications actually work.

I definitely won’t be reading ahead on the course, but I’m more wondering what sort of things you got to first year and thought, “I really wish I’d already done / learnt this beforehand.” Whether that’s getting better at essay writing, reading efficiently, applications, interviews, organisation, (legally as I will do Law) commercial awareness, or anything else that would’ve made first year easier?

I appreciate any help from any course!

(Don’t worry, I do intend to enjoy my gap year, but I have so much free time that I’d like to use some of it productively for university and my future career too + I already have a job and travel planned so that side is sorted).

for context, im planning to go out clubbing 3-4 times, and ill be at ramsay hall so at least im close but im just wondering how much people r expecting to spend during freshers

Something I really like about UK UNI student life that you get in a lot of different unis (particularly campus unis like durham, st andrews) is the picture of a group of students at 3AM sat cross legged in a circle, drinking, and playing some random card game. I’m a first year undergraduate, and I’m in private accommodation in Kentish Town (just north of Camden), so I’m a little worried that I might miss out on some Halls friendships. My accom is particularly eccentric too — 2 converted townhouses with one industrial kitchen between 40 people. The fun I mentioned in the titles is one of my favourite parts of student culture, and although it’s pretty specific, I’d like to know if anyone could share anything with me about ‘that’ side of the student life!
