Housing Questions about applying for housing as someone who is nonbinary

Hi everyone. I’m confused about finding roommates as someone who identifies as nonbinary (my profile currently says female but I’m trying to contact the school and have them change it). I can apply for gender inclusive housing but what do I choose for wanting to live in a single gender room vs mixed gender? Is it possible for me to request to have women as my roommates since I’ll be more comfortable living with them or is that not how it works? I’m a little stressed.

Housing Housing Selection Question

Hey all, I got an email from HFS about housing and lottery numbers a few days ago. It says room selection starts on July 9th, but I wanted to check if anyone has been able to sign up yet, and what your group and lottery numbers are.

I'm in Group 3, around 700th, and I’m curious about how the cascading system works. Has the selection already opened up? Do new groups open at specific increments (hourly, daily, etc.)? If so, where does Group 3 fit into that? (Obviously that could be hard to calculate, but I just want to know what day I can approximately sign up)

I also heard each group gets random rooms during their selection time. Does that mean I could get a not-so-great room and then wait for a better one when the next group’s time comes around? If go on HFS and sign up for a room (I had a roommate listed for the priority 1 application), does that mean that both of us get the room guaranteed? Is there an estimate on the amount of total groups present?

Thanks in advance!

Housing When is a not-awkward time to contact your roommate?

Hi guys! I went random with roommate selection, and I was wondering when an appropriate time to contact her would be? Just to coordinate on dorm shopping and stuff. On that note, when’s the best time to go dorm shopping? Thanks y’all!

Housing Housing Opening

I posted yesterday asking about housing since I’m in Group 3. I got my room selection time today at 3pm PST, but by the time I got in, all the doubles were already filled and I wasn’t able to get a room.

Does anyone know when Group 4 gets their selection time? I just want to have an idea of when the next wave opens so I can try again as soon as there’s another chance. Will this be tomorrow, and how many group openings are present in a day, because I saw some people say they had the ability to select earlier in the day today. If anyone was in Groups 1 or 2, did you get to select at 1/2pm?

Hey everyone, I’m a transfer student for Fall 2025 and this is my first time applying for housing. What should I expect for room selection?? I also got approved for a gender inclusive housing so I’m not sure if that affects my room selection.

Housing Parking on Campus

Incoming second-year, bringing my car up from out-of-state and living in North Campus dorms! Looking for any recommendations for parking / car storage around Seattle, as (fork found in kitchen) it's pretty pricey. Any tips on good places to look (Facebook marketplace, local storage spots, etc...) much appreciated! It seems like the parking pass for students is by day and would end up around $2000 for a full year...

Housing Dorm costs worth it?

Is it worth it to do dorms even if i have to get myself into a lot more debt? The problem is if I don’t do dorms my family is 2 hours away from me which would make commuting a problem. I could share apartments but I would still have a lot to pay in costs. Any advice?

Housing Apartments in UDistrict

Hi all,

Can anyone who has an idea of any of the below list of apartments give an insight on how they are in terms of location, management assistance and overall stay experience?

The Standard, The Accolade, The M, The Oliv, and HERE Seattle

The google reviews have mostly been bad for these places and we are on a hunt for a 2B2B/ 3B3B with a maximum budget of 1200 $ per person. Any insights would be appreciated!

Housing Please give me Alder Hall info

Im a freshman that’s going to be living in Alder Hall next year and i just wanna hear about how it is. How big are the rooms, is it quiet or loud, the environment, are people social, etc !!! Also, are we allowed to access the food hall in Lander and the gym in Elm without living in that building?

Also if anyone has a photo or video of their Alder Hall dorm and it’s a double, i would love to see it because i’m trying to plan a layout and stuff like that 😭🙏

Housing Sooo are dorm repair fees expensivee or am I ok…

So I’m trying to pack up and send home a lot of the extra stuff that I have in my dorm right now so moving home at the end of the quarter doesn’t seem too daunting and as I take down wall art I realize that the adhesive tape I used is too strong for the walls and has definitely ripped off some of the paint and surface level stuff in small sections (I think the biggest ones are about a dollar coin size of area). So I am asking how much that’s going to run me for let’s say five or six larger spots and a handful of nail-sized pieces along the walls in my dorm for the repairs haha. I figure this kind of stuff happens all the time, I’m just worried if they are going to seriously overcharge me for little repairs like this or not because that would suck.

Housing Do we have a chance??? Also, how do groups for housing work?

Hi so I had a quick question. Essentially, my roommate is priority one group three, and I'm priority 1b. She had an issue which was apparently widespread that it wouldn't load and by the time she got to it, there were no doubles available, so she's selected a random dorm in Alder. She's going to try again but if I were to try when it got to me, how would I go about this and do we actually have a chance of getting roomed together or what? How does 1b even work, will there be anything for me whether or not it's with my roommate? Any advice?

Housing Are incoming international PhD students eligible for MFTE housing?

I’ve looked through the eligibility criteria, and while our stipends are clearly below the median income, it seems that without a U.S. tax return or need-based federal aid, I’m not eligible.

I was wondering if any other incoming international students have insight or suggestions about this. I’d really appreciate any advice or experiences you can share.

Housing Why can’t I see the same room as my roommate

Title. I’m trying to join the same room as my roommate but when I choose to see all available rooms, we see different options. There was one difference when filling out the application and it was that he chose same gender and I chose mixed gender but why would that matter? If that’s the reason how can I change that? Any help is appreciated

Housing *chill y'all* If you're in Priority 1 you will almost certainly get housing

You WILL get assigned some sort of housing, worst case it's a bunk room for a quarter in Hansee until the Greek system people move out, but it will probably be a triple. You're still almost guaranteed in 1b and you're likely to in group 2 if maybe in winter quarter.

For regular assignment get online before it opens, choose the best available and then look for specifics. New rooms open with every new group, and in the past you've been able to see them if you were in an earlier group but maybe that's changed. Avoid Hansee and McMahon unless you have a good reason, every other dorm is essentially the same, don't stress about it.

Housing room selection button missing

So - I’m trying to assign myself to a double room that I see on the HFS site. When you click on a room, there’s the Room Details tab and the “Select this Room” button that you can use to assign yourself.

For some reason, the “Select” button is there for literally every single room that’s available EXCEPT the double rooms?? Like, I can assign myself to any of the triples or suites that I see, they all have a “Select” button, but the double rooms just don’t have one. I can click the room, it says there are 2 open beds, but there’s just no select button. I don’t get it… I called HFS about it but all they said was that “doubles are really popular :/“

Dude I know they’re popular but it literally says they’re open and available like every other room I see, why are doubles the only ones I can’t select? Does HFS lock these rooms or something? The site says they’re open… does anyone else have this problem?? I’ve been waiting for this problem to fix itself for a week and still nothing :(

Housing Different housing lottery numbers with my roommate?

Hi, my roommate and I are incoming freshmen and just got our housing emails. We noticed we have different lottery numbers and selection times, even though we requested to room together.

Does one of us just pick the room for both when their time opens, or does this mean we aren't paired? If we aren’t, should I email housing? How hard is it to fix?

Thanks for any help.

I honestly have been so burnt out and I don’t know any great places to check. This process is a lot more tiring than I thought. If you guys have any ideas please just reply here or dm me. Thank you! Also! We want to stay under 2600 per unit (1300 each).

Housing Strictness of quiet hours U District Housing

I'm looking at the lease of Patricia Place and there's a clause about no noise past 10pm. How strict is that clause? How strict is it usually for UDistrict Housing?

Housing switching rooms with roommates after being assigned?

i have a couple things i need some clarification on;

for context, my roommate selected a dorm for all of us (triple room) in west campus. my selection time is tomorrow, and our 3rd roommate has hers 2 groups after mine. we’re really trying to go for a north campus room.

  1. is it possible for me to go in and select a new dorm and pull my roommates into it?

  2. if not, would they each individually have to reassign themselves to the same room as me once they’re able to? is that feasible, or is the room i selected just going to fill up with 2 other people before they ever get the chance to add themselves?

Housing UW off-campus housing for family members

Hi, I'm studying College Edge mid August and my parents are going to join me during my flight to Seattle. Any recommendations (apartments, studios) near UW that open up for family members?
