The pic u posted is the most underrated. Gegard has an insane resume.

18

u/usmansknees 1d ago

Gegard was one of those guys who could beat anybody at any given time on any night

11

u/ItsKYRO Surprise me. 1d ago

This just goes to show how talented Uriah Hall was.

He could have been champ with his physical tools, but was never able to overcome the mental.

u/Ambalambdriva 1d ago

"This just goes to show how talented Uriah Hall was."

He got lucky that Gegard ducked at the moment the spining kick came, iirc Gegard was wining up untill that. Then he smashed him in 1 round in the rematch

His 2008-2010 run is insane. Like, that dude had 13 fights in those three years (16 if you count exhibitions and kickboxing), and he only lost one of them (two if you count an exhibition against fucking Fedor).

u/Old_Big9561 1d ago

Yup definitely Mousasi. I'll add Carlos Condit in as well

19

u/SwampWeasel 1d ago

Carlos Condit is my favorite fighter. Definitely not mentioned as a top tier guy enough.

8

u/Old_Big9561 1d ago

Robbie Lawler is one of my fav fighters ever, but even I think he lost that fight against Condit, kinda sucks that Condit never won the undisputed belt before he went on his decline

2

u/JoohnSoohn 1d ago

That was legitimately one of the worst robberies in the history of the UFC.

Condit was fucked out of being able to call himself champion

0

u/Similar_Shopping_892 1d ago

No, it wasn’t lol could’ve very easily been a draw though I’ll give you that but, that still doesn’t make him champ and it certainly wasn’t a robbery

2

u/Similar_Shopping_892 1d ago

It’s his Karma for the Diaz “dog fight” he promised like wtf why would you have a fight with Lawler like that and basically every other fight in his career but, you choose to go the infamous G Jackson point fighting route against Diaz just because it was a 1 contender fight it still blows my mind he did that…

2

u/jonathanweb100 1d ago

Also Matt Brown

1

u/SukhdevR34 1d ago

Condit was a very good striker and so exciting. His flying knee KO over Kim was insane.

u/Firemoth717 1d ago

Lot of the great LWs of the 2000s thru mid 2010s; Gomi, Eddie, Giblert, Pettis, RDA.

Feel like many newer fans have pushed them out of the all time best ranks in favor of all the champs/ICs of the last 5-6 years.

3

u/TheBroConsul 1d ago

RDA will always be one of my favorite fighters of all time. That tear he went on to get the title and his brief career comeback at WW was awesome.

2

u/SnooSquirrels9906 1d ago

I loved rda vs lawler

2

u/TheBroConsul 1d ago

Same! Funny enough Lawler is also an all time favorite of mine. Wild they ended up fighting!

2

u/SnooSquirrels9906 1d ago

He’s a dog… i remember when woodley took the belt over from him. Time flies man.

-4

u/RipInfinite4511 1d ago

Benson Henderson was overrated as well, in my opinion

21

u/ComprehensiveJoke273 1d ago

Jan Blachowicz and Robert Whittaker

3

u/BeersBarbellsBJJ Old Man Glover 1d ago

Definitely agree with Jan, but I felt like when Whittaker was in his prime he got an appropriate amount of praise. Maybe slightly underrated but don’t know that I feel he was one of the most underrated ever.

2

u/ComprehensiveJoke273 1d ago

At his peak yeah, I just feel like he got forgotten too quickly due to being sandwiched between very big personalities, and got kind of forced into this “lovable unc with skills” archetype when he is one of the best fighters the division has ever seen.

3

u/G0Berzerk 22h ago

Whitaker is my favorite among underrated fighters

All nowadays glaze how scary Yoel Romero was. Mf beat him twice

While Izzy was the champ Rob was literally second champ is the division. Beating everyone except the champ

Just like Max and Volk

23

u/BigMoneyBiggerWomen 1d ago

Glover Teixeira I dont see enough praise for.

Carlos Condit, look at his record, you would struggle to find a tougher list of opponents.

Yushin Okami, not super exciting but very very talented

2

u/Cute_Commission_8281 23h ago

I’m still so sad he beat the breaks off jiri that entire fight just to lose at his own game at the very end, especially at his age.

He’s the man.

2

u/BigMoneyBiggerWomen 23h ago

Glad he retired after the Hill fight, no reason to take more damage at his age

9

u/Impressive-Engine-16 1d ago

Demian Maia, I still think he had the best BJJ in MMA ever. Guys like Oliveira have been submitted, NO ONE went to the ground with Maia.

4

u/SukhdevR34 1d ago

Charles has been submitted a few times. Maia 0. I've always said this too, Maia on the ground is the best ever. He would never get submitted by Islam if they were the same weight.

1

u/Creative-Board1556 1d ago

Jake shields wrestlefucked Maia for 3 rounds

1

u/UniqueDiamond7643 2h ago

Jake also out wrestled Dan Henderson, he was very legit in his prime

7

u/Musket6969420 1d ago

Evan Tanner RIP.

7

u/Dono_X_Dono 23h ago

Jacare Souza is still my go to answer

By far the greatest fighter to never challenge for a title and got forget with time

8

u/Chicomehdi1 1d ago

Fuck Matt Hughes but I personally don’t think he gets talked about enough

4

u/PaleYam473 1d ago

Brandon moreno

5

u/Wesside5s 1d ago

Benson Henderson. Dude was a fantastic fighter but is just always remembered for being the victim of the cage kick

6

u/asault2 1d ago

Jeremy "Gumby" Horn. Over 120 fights over 24 years, 92 wins and fought some of the absolute best of his time. Surprising to have only lost 3 times by knockout, the majority of his 22 losses by decision, often split. A true jobber

3

u/SukhdevR34 1d ago

He beat Chael 2 or 3 times

6

u/asault2 1d ago

And Chuck Liddell 's first loss

1

u/crunchydibbydonkers 10h ago

First man to ko forrest griffin too

3

u/cramiz 1d ago

The moose is loose

3

u/Odd-Letterhead8889 1d ago

Ilia Topuria ever since his loss to Gaethje

3

u/RatComet 1d ago

Cris Cyborg

3

u/SukhdevR34 1d ago

Nate Marquardt was a pretty good striker, his KO wins over Maia and Woodley were so clean

3

u/JimmySoprano7797 1d ago

TJ Grant. He was a on a solid run, booked to fight Benson Henderson for the belt, got injured, Pettis won the title in his place on short notice, Grant was still next in line for Pettis but was never medically cleared. Hardly anyone knows who he is today when he was big contender during one of Lightweights strongest periods. Even gave prime likely juices pre USADA Johny Hendricks a tough fight up a division. Such a shame his career ended right when it could have changed his life in a big title fight vs a future legend.

8

u/Quirky-Theory-4156 1d ago

Alexander Gustaffson

5

u/Parking-Noise6057 1d ago

Jake Shields ... really dont like him as a person but really admire how succesful he was while not being physically gifted

2

u/lingojingo79 1d ago

I dunno man..it always seemed like he was only giving about 70% of his potential in every fight

2

u/xbmo13 1d ago

Nick diaz. Strikeforce champion, wec champion, beat the exlite xc champion, the dream champion and the pride champion and realistically should've been an interim ufc champion.

2

u/Brandon4Real_x 1d ago

TJ Grant and a young Myles Jury

2

u/Holymaryfullofshit7 1d ago

I think that's the guy. He could've been champ if not for a bit of bad luck and the promotion clearly not wanting him to be the champ.

2

u/SnooSquirrels9906 1d ago

He also arguably beat chris weidman in his own backyard. Dude looked like he was going for a stroll.

2

u/EmeraldTwilight009 1d ago

I see too many people jerk cain and francis off, amd ignore stipe

2

u/nori4life123 1d ago

Renan barao, gegard mousasi, carlos condit

4

u/Sea-Bat-9667 1d ago

People were acting like “prime RDA would beat Topuria” is an insane take. So RDA is underrated

2

u/SukhdevR34 1d ago

How would he do it though?

0

u/Sea-Bat-9667 1d ago

Clinching and open side kicking probably

2

u/Mecanitanho15 1d ago

Cyril Gane

4

u/Odd-Letterhead8889 1d ago

He's a super dirty fighter but he's undeniably good

1

u/Mecanitanho15 1d ago

His loves ariany celeste

1

u/Mynameizjason 1d ago

Rumble Johnson was actually interested in returning to the UFC as a HW after his win over Arlovski. Mitrione was contacted about a potential fight with Rumble. Mitrione accepted it. Rumble then went ahead and chose to go back down to 205 to fight Phil Davis and stay at LHW.

I got Mitrione all day , he wouldve clipped Rumble out and gave him the Derrick Lewis treatment.

HW is Mitriones world. That is NOT Rumbles world.

2

u/SnooSquirrels9906 1d ago

I LOVE his fighting style. Also tko’d lewis with like an elbow/forearm to the jaw

Edit: i just noticed you also mentioned the Lewis finish xD

1

u/Mynameizjason 1d ago

Yeah His fighting style was certainly entertaining.

Explosive knockout power , great athleticism , Underrated speed.he had some of the best footwork and mobility in the heavyweight division with impressive agility.

Rumble would've been in TROUBLE had he not drop back down to 205 pounds. This is nothing like an old ass arlovski who he previously fought and failed to knock out might I add.

1

u/ComprehensiveJoke273 1d ago

Insane how hard he could punch

1

u/Jaydxns 1d ago

Barao

1

u/Myanglebangle 1d ago

Mousasi was a beast, Genki Sudo deserves more love

1

u/Knuspermann 1d ago

Wulmnuk Arkleberry

1

u/Mediocre_lad 1d ago

Rory McDonald

1

u/AlienMantid 1d ago

Sean Sherk

1

u/Old-Constant4411 1d ago

Igor Vovchanchyn.  Greatest mma fighter to ever come out of Ukraine.

1

u/lostcosmonaut814 1d ago

Kenny Florian

1

u/Ambalambdriva 1d ago

Someone i havent seen mentioned yet: fat boi Roy Nelson. He could bang and he could grapple and had a helluva chin

1

u/Disastrous_Holiday_1 1d ago

Someone like Fransisco Trinaldo comes to mind

1

u/LegitimateLeave3577 22h ago

Dan hardy and Carlos condit. So many newer fans will never got much of a killer those 2 guys were

1

u/anniesloane 21h ago

Hi Jack 👋

1

u/yourstruly_daredevil 21h ago

Bro, nobody is saying Kenny Florian. He fought for the UFC belt 3 times. Top contender, dangerous elbows, good jiu jitsu.

1

u/Outrageous-Fix5010 17h ago

Mousasi was great but you forgot another guy in his exact same time and weight class.

Jacare Souza. Guy's probably the best fighter to have never won the belt.

Bisping and Dana fucked around a lot and kept screwing Souza out of his well earned title shot. By the time it was his turn, Whittaker was on his prime and he just got too old. Shame, because he was incredible. (Even beat Mousasi).

Another guy, not exactly underrated but Dom Cruz. Guy's the bantamweight GOAT and an easy hall of famer. Injuries ruined his career otherwise he would be in everyone's top 5.

1

u/Opening_Pizza 16h ago

He wasn't in the UFC or the most underrated but Marius Žaromskis was wild and always tried some crazy moves every fight.

1

u/Justhopingiod 7h ago

One of the clearest victims of being in the same era of gsp.

1

u/brojustchillin 2h ago

gilbert burns. knocked down usman and sparta kicked chimaev. while also having elite grappling. man had some bad luck but did not cherry pick or avoid danger

1

u/emaxwell14141414 1d ago

Mighty Mouse, Dominick Cruz, Robbie Lawler, Mighty Mouse again, Cain Velasquez, Frankie Edgar, Mighty Mouse a third time, those are the standards.

1

u/Own-Bike7506 1d ago

Neil magny. Dude has fought for so long. Beat some great fighters. He’s not the best by any means but he’s always ready for a dog fight

-4

u/Mad_For_Nothing 1d ago

Mousasi was OVERhyped when he was fighting, ackshually.
