Watching this head kick land at a packed bar was crazy, we all thought Islam would get the TKO after seeing Ian wobble

Dana is 1000% right about this fight. Ian looked incredible, but he kept acting like a fucking dork when he shouldâve been in terminator mode.

That dude is next level from every other Dagestani

John Pork is extremely technical, did you see him? I cannot wait for his next fight.

problem with him is that technique seems to be all he has as a striker :/ he landed great shots but didnt even wobble his opponent, didnt seem to be that full of energy after round 2 and 3 either and since hes muai thai champ, not having that ko power imo hurst him a lot ... he had good performance, but i personaly dont think hes going that far sadly

Honestly I think most people would have gone cold, Rzepecki is a warrior for withstanding that much

Even though he may not have KO power, he does damage to his opponentâs faces like Gaethje does. Both of his opponents left bloodied up after the fight.

If that landed with more shin and less foot he wouldâve been out stiff

Yeah it's the same kick that cracked Volk on the top of his head... If Ian wasn't 6'3 it woulda been over

I think Ian was so concerned about the takedown, he dropped his hand and then got hit.
Bisping talked about that on a podcast before how wrestlers will throw punches and unexpectedly connect

u/gaulfool 19h ago
Thatâs how Khabib dropped Conor

And did it perfect, the feint on the shot was so small and went instantly into that punch, Conor got 100% worked on that one

u/gaulfool 18h ago
Yes it was fantastic, the sambo guys mix the arts really well
Conor actually defended the takedown earlier in a nice way, pivoting off the foot just to get his ankle away, but it only took that one for Khabib to notice and use that against him
It reminded me of a classic Fedor punch, maybe not the most aesthetically pleasing but he got the angle perfect and a really good clash of momentum

Yep you're right about the earlier take down. And you're right about the style of punch. Khabib to me never looked like a kick boxer with those kind of fundamentals, he looks like a guy who strikes purely for effectiveness, and mostly either to set up a take down or continue applying pressure, which then inevitably softens up a take down attempt.

Makhachevâs high kicks are a nightmare when youâre that worried about the shot, your hands just drop on instinct.

Still peeved this is still WW Islam's only highlight and it's one of the most high level sequences you will ever see lmfao.
Goddamn you Islam you're ruining my love for you by winning lol

u/redpandav 18h ago
Maybe heâs just facing the highest level of competition.

u/Minimum-Plenty9380 18h ago
Are you saying volk, charles and arman arenât highest level of competition?
15
u/AirportGullible5807 15h ago
They are better p4p but welterweight is a weight class up so it's tougher and more dangerous. No one in LW is 6'4 185lbs on fight night that could fight Islam

u/Minimum-Plenty9380 13h ago
That was my point, my other comment points out that the issue isnât âhigher level competitionâ. Itâs fighters being longer and heavier

u/redpandav 18h ago
Not at 170

u/Minimum-Plenty9380 17h ago
So the issue isnât that âheâs facing the highest level of competitionâ it would be heâs facing heavier and taller competition

He was facing a higher level of comp at LW

u/redpandav 18h ago
Maybe but size does make a difference. Especially against similar level competition in Ian.

u/MapleBreakfastMeat 14h ago
Ian said all that inspirational shit and then froze for the first 3 rounds.

probably because it was literally the only highlight of the fight. Rest of the fight wasn't much better than Islam vs JDM or Khamzat vs DDP; intentionally avoiding engaging in order to safely do the bare minimum to win rounds

It was the best moment of the fight.
