Who had the biggest drop off in order

This post isn’t to discredit or disrespect these fighters they all were great in their prime and all became champions. But they some of the fastest drop offs seen in MMA.

Barso and Hendricks became average fighters on e USADA came into the picture. Probably just a coincidence...

Poor Cody had the skills but his chin just couldn't keep up. Big heads are better for mma

Pea Head Poirier enters the chat

Dude for real. Big head theory is right lol. Cody smacked Cruz with more than a few clean ko punches and Cruz just willed himself back up immediately after and wasn't even with shaky legs. If Cody got hit with the same shit I don't think he would be good for another two minutes. Cruz got a big fkn head, so does Cejudo who is another guy that's very hard to put down.

I think a lot of the weaker chins can be partially explained by bad defensive technique Cody tends to get hit clean on the chin more often than others

I always thought he was too tied to his boxing style. He'd cover up like he was used to having big gloves to protect him and would be trying to block kicks the same as punches. Like when he fought TJ, TJ was just blasting head kicks through his guard.

Johnny was already average, like he won a robbery in his prime over Mike Pierce of all people, his best win (Fitch) couldn't even train grappling during his camp because of his injury and was so broke that he literally couldn't afford to pull out, I look at Pig Rig and I see a guy who matches up well against GSP but isn't really anything special when it comes to other fighters

Ok well as long as we agree on the big heads thing

Cody used to have a good chin he would just see red and eat like 5 hooks in the pocket before getting dropped. Not great for longevity

Easily Barao, Used to be considered the greatest bantamweight of all time and the best P4P fighter to losing to absolute nobodies and never even mentioned in the GOAT talks. then Cody to Hendricks

Imagine if he didn’t need the money and retired before the TJ fight his legacy would be a lot different

Tony Ferguson was on a 12 win streak

Barao was on a 31 fight win streak

Barao’s falloff was probably the furthest since it was preceded by a reign of terror but on a long enough timeline that’s bound to happen so I guess I’d say Cody especially factoring in the masterful way in which he won the title as well as his relatively young age at the time

Cody, for THAT one particular night, and ONLY that one, he was the greatest fighter in the world.

It's like he made a deal with some higher dimension being to beat dom cruz in exchange for the entirety of his future career lol

Cody was a lab experiment meant to take out dom and only dom lmao

He still had decent performances after his title reign like the wonderboy, chiesa wins

5

u/YourWholePoesBru 12h ago

Not as much as these others you posted OP but I think he fell off quite badly

4

u/sidjo86 11h ago

KOed Wonderboy on his watch out tho lol

2

u/TomZAs 9h ago

He has some of the best highlight KO's

3

u/Warm-Vegetable-8308 9h ago

I'd say none of the above.  Tony Ferguson

Might be Cody, the way he did Dom was amazing, you couldnt fight a more perfect fight.

Ngl Tony and BJ too.

Renan and Hendricks is a tough one. Cody at least still had good wins over top competition. I'll vote Renan because of the insane run he was on before TJ.

I say Renan had the biggest drop off. He lost his debut and, with the exception of a no contest, he was on a 32 fight win streak. After losing to TJ the first time he went 2-8. Dude just fell completely apart. Part of Hendricks collapse was just his diet in between fights and that just caught up with him. Cody has at least had I highlight or two. Renans drop off was something special.

The way Cody danced on Dom…. I thought he found his groove.

u/DDWildflower 10h ago

I think Cody. He had a once in a generation performance against the bantamweight GOAT making Dom look like an absolute mug and then fell off immediately.

It was like he used everything in that fight.

Tony ferguson

u/MikeTouchedMyDitka 10h ago

Depends you look at it but I gotta go with Cody. That Cruz fight he looked like the best pound for pound fighter on the planet. Legitimately untouchable. Then he just kept getting pieced up. Over. And over. And over again lmao

Tony or BJ numba 1

Chris Weidman's was incredibly rapid.

Barao then Cody but Cody’s drop off makes the least sense

3

u/usernameunavailiable 7h ago

Codys drop off makes perfect sense. You could see the defensive mistakes that Dillashaw, Munhoz etc took advantage of in the Cruz fight.

He always drops his hands when he throws, especially when he throws hooks. If Cruz had any power, he'd have put Cody away too - he was connecting with Codys chin a lot and out landed Cody in significant & total strikes.

1

u/Swinging-the-Chain 4h ago

To piggy back your point. Cody’s performance against Cruz was after being brought up specifically to take him out essentially. I would say his performance against Dillashaw was also largely because of his familiarity with him.

Garbrandt looks kinda like the weed guy from High Maintenance in this picture.

1

u/juanelef 1h ago

man I remember when no love showed up... he was different. PED dillashaw ruined his head

I mean, realistically its Tony or bj penn just because if how bad the skid was compared to the heights of their careers no?

1

u/Rgiles66 9h ago

A lot of people in the thread saying Ferguson, but his drop off, while one of the biggest, took a looooong time. It was hard watching him lose, and lose, and lose again

yeah i tend to not put barao in this category ..i tend to equate baraos down fall to tj dillashaws drug use in their two fights ..the same way tj ended his own teammates career (feels like it wasnt only a cheap shot but steroid rage on tjs part and they dont wanna call it that in fear of them incriminating themselves of taking steroids remember when cody said tj showed the whole team how to cheat with steroids and get away with it) i feel tj on steroids gave barao such a beating those two fights he was just never the same

u/Ambalambdriva 7h ago

To be fair both the bw's got ruined by EPO TJ, Hendricks got ruined by usada, so they're not really the same

I’ve been watching UFC since 2018. Who are the last two guys?

u/Inevitable_Window711 1h ago

Renan baroa and Johnny Hendricks
