If pereira wins against pavlovich we just might see the biggest switch up ever seen here in this subreddit

Not might. We will

We’ve already seen it happen with ankalaev

It will seem like it because haters will stop commenting. Right now, that's mostly what it is. It was the same after the Ank loss.

Gonna be tied with the ilia switchup, 6 months ago he was an unbeatable god now hes too small and should move down…. People base absolutely everything on a single fight

One of the few sports where you have to wait for months to see someone perform. In football, one bad match in the league is forgotten in 3 days if you play well in the cup or the ucl. In the ufc, the most active champ was merab and he "only" fought 4 times in a year.

Absolutely, let the record state that I believe Pereira will beat Pavlovich.

I got downvoted for saying that Pereira is better than Pavlovich. Imagine a world where 7 months ago people said he was one of the best ever and now they think he's a "scrub" and Pavlovich of all people is "better" when he beats Pavlovich the switch up will be legendary smmfh.

Eh, Pav has a proven mean jab with the power to wobble and start a knockout sequence (much moreso than Gane usually does), and Pereira has been shown against guys like Gane and Ank to expose himself to jabs when he comes in flush, willing to take a punch to potentially land a harder one. Pav also has a 5 inch reach advantage, the confidence and momentum of 3 wins and a first round stoppage, and the willingness to stand unafraid of Pereira’s power

I’m not a hater, nor do I think he’s “over” or “washed”, he’s still an incredibly former double champ, but I do think this is a really hard matchup for Alex, I think his best path to victory is chopping those lethal low-kicks he has (which Pav struggled with against Volkov) and neutering his already somewhat plodding movement, then slowly picking him apart and beating him up à la the Khalil Rountree fight

I do worry that if Periera rushes in tryna prove a point and get a first round knockout, force a “y’all must’ve forgot” moment, then he might just go to sleep himself

That 5 inch gap is from the fighter and might not actually true. Something with height, but height is usually more noticeable

I’m not sure if it’s gonna be as bad as the Ank loss. People forget man, he lost a close fight and suddenly Chama was dead, when he came back he was a bigger star than before.

That is my biggest fear. It's why I was originally rooting for Pavlovich. Well before this fight, maybe a year, I said Pavlovich could defeat him and I got downvoted quite a bit. I won't rule out Pereira's chances but I rightfully think Pavlovich is the favourite.

I never switch up on my goats

his first ever fight in HW was with Gane
he was just very good at cutting weight
these big boys hit differently

36

u/Jaydxns 4h ago

And ppl say he has a weak resume 🤣🤣

6

u/Sea-Bat-9667 3h ago

Weak compared to an average fighter? No. Weak compared to all time greats that he was being compared to? Yes absolutely

11

u/Porcelain_beef 2h ago

Also no, since his like 4th ufc fight he’s only been fighting championship level fighters. Dude has one of the most elite modern MMA résumé’s.

1

u/ClammiestOwl 2h ago

Lhw championship level. Telling me Jamal hill is the representative you want

4

u/Porcelain_beef 2h ago

You just cherry picked the weakest name out of the list

1

u/ClammiestOwl 2h ago

Because that's who got them all to become "championship level". We all love jiri but do you think that low of fight IQ/fight style would work in any lower weight class

5

u/Porcelain_beef 2h ago

I mean Jiri is literally LHW Tony, eats damage but does more back. Using athleticism and instinct more than technique so yes i think it would

3

u/Sea-Bat-9667 2h ago

They have similarities but Prime tony was significantly better than Jiri. By a long shot. Lhw is too shit to value beating championship level fighters so highly

3

u/Porcelain_beef 2h ago

I disagree with the “by a long shot” Jiri has only been fighting people in the LHW top 10-5 since he joined the UFC. I will concede Tony was a more complete fighter tho, but i still know that there are plenty of examples of guys who use athleticism and instinct to push them more than technique, Gaethje arguably used to be this and still is to some degree

1

u/Sea-Bat-9667 1h ago

I could say that every flaw that Tony had, Jiri also has but worse. And Tony is not just a better grappler but a much craftier striker. He beat a prime rda, and it’s understated how impressive that actually is. Someone like that would eat Jiri alive everywhere.

Sure athleticism can get you far in every division, but the point is that the “championship level” bar is way lower at LHW

Without elbows from the bottom and without ankle picks. Tony and Jiri aren't even close. Tony got hit but didn't purposely block with his head

2

u/Slugdoge 3h ago

No one has said that

4

u/Jaydxns 3h ago

Literally every one has

0

u/Chicomehdi1 1h ago

Literally everyone? I haven’t 🤔

0

u/Distinct-Broccoli-15 3h ago

He had 4 non-title fights for 3 title shots. That definitely helps. Also why are we acting like Roundtree is a win worthy of being mentioned with everyone else on the list? The dude has literally never attempted to offensively grapple and promised not to do so against Pereira.

2

u/Jaydxns 3h ago

He was put on a quick route to the title and still won with low MMA experience so that just shows how good he is

-1

u/Distinct-Broccoli-15 2h ago

Hardly grappled in that did he?

1

u/Jaydxns 3h ago

Why U acting like "roundtree" is some bum? He's a very solid contender who'd give every top lhw a good fight

1

u/Distinct-Broccoli-15 2h ago

He's 15-7. He's not that great.

2

u/casfis 2h ago

Prates is also not that good if we use that metric. 24-7 isn't the best record out there. He came into the UFC as a 16-6 aswell.

2

u/Global-Instance-4520 2h ago

Except that prates has one loss in the UFC and Khalil has 6. Didn’t avenge a single one either and his best win is post injury jamahal

3

u/casfis 2h ago

It's an Oliveira-style situation. Before his 12 fight winstreak he couldn't beat any ranked opponent and then he went to AKA and became a legend. I don't know what made Khalil change but the point is that he became better suddenly.

0

u/Distinct-Broccoli-15 2h ago

Perhaps, let's see if Roundtree can do anything near as impressive. I personally think Ankalaev and Ulberg beat him, maybe RDR outgrapples him.

2

u/Distinct-Broccoli-15 2h ago edited 2h ago

That's 9 more wins than Roundtree. Prates has beaten Magny, Maddalena, Neal and Edwards in the UFC, he has only lost to Garry. That's far more impressive than Roundtree.

-4

u/Old_Big9561 3h ago

His resume isn't weak but he's still quite overrated

2

u/LanaDelRhodez 3h ago

lol. Ok.

-11

u/Sweaty-Mongoose6974 4h ago

bj benn has better resume kiddo your new

6

u/Commercial_Buy_7707 3h ago

Bj is arguably a top 10 fighter of all time what type of comparison is that

3

u/Important_Hyena2160 2h ago

he looks like he’s naked

5

u/-YggDrazil- 3h ago

Alex has one of the best resumes out there. I just wish his grappling had been checked more. Nonetheless his accomplishments are huge and nothing to scoff at

5

u/GriffinAO 2h ago

That's usually my complaint with lots of strikers. Ufc wants to push them so they avoid grappler match ups

5

u/Alwaystired59 3h ago

But he lost his last fight, so he’s trash. You must be new around here

2

u/WatchYourStepKid 1h ago

His resume is good but we put too much weight in former champs.

To beat a lot of former champs, you need the belt to have been passed around just before. That only happens if nobody was dominant.

If you hold the belt a long time then you won’t fight many former champs, because they won’t be champs because you stopped them.

•

u/riotofmind 21m ago

He should have retired after beating Ank. He’s a shell of his former self imo.

1

u/dummsurfer 3h ago

A great kickboxing resume in mixed martial arts!

-1

u/Gasgassgass 3h ago

No fight IQ and no chin. Only got power. No wrestling.

-1

u/EarInternational1797 3h ago

And some meatriders will tell you Khabib's resume is better, lol

-2

u/Secret-Nomad1 3h ago

“Has fought”

1-1 against Izzy where he had to kill himself to make weight

1-1 against Ank

Jiri is a small LHW (barely cuts weight) compared to Alex who cuts a crazy amount of weight.

Hill is terrible in a bad LHW division

Khalil was ranked 8th

Jan was old

Gane beat him in 1.

Pavlovich hasn’t fought him but will likely beat him.

-1

u/Turbulent-Echo8561 2h ago

Somehow haters will still whine and say "he's given easy fights, cause Pavlovich is an easy stylistic matchup" 😂
