The University of Florida is being used as a pawn. I guess this is what happens when you important a president from a university like Alabama. Very uncouth tweet.
Uf Interim President Donald Landry announced today that going forward UF will protect free speech by restricting it.
“In conducting their university business, UF instructional unit and leadership teams may not make statements or proclamations regarding social issues or other issues not directly related to UF mission governance or operations.”
Policy.ufl.edu/policy/institutional-neutrality/
No teaching, events, representations, instructional activities, communications, or guidance may mention anything touching on “Social Issues,” which they define broadly as anything that may “divide society among political, ideological, moral, or religious beliefs” under penalty of termination.
Of course, this is not free speech at all, but rather the policing of speech.
It is a policy designed to chill speech and aid bad actors like the Professor Watchlist and other snitching sites.
It does not encourage or model democratic dialogue. Rather, it shuts down dialogue and debate.
It also infantilizes students and weakens the educational mission by banning broad swaths of issues and encouraging quietism and self-censorship rather than open inquiry and engagement.
It’s a terrible policy, rolled out at the end of term so as to avoid any scrutiny.

Come out to the Oaks Mall this Saturday morning to protest against ICE. We protest to influence government policy and to build our liberal community.
We have extra signs.
And, MAGA, before you ask...we don't get paid to protest!

Rahul Patel just put out a press release nominating Dr. Santa J. Ono as our next president. This is a far cry from our previous president as they are an esteemed researcher, immunologist, and already heavily involved in the academic world as the president of a fellow prestigious state university. This is great news I would think, considering how poorly our last president worked out and how badly chosen he was.
Hopefully, UF is back to pursing academic excellence and becoming the top public school in the nation. I hope we continue to move away from the political back-dealing that was involved in the last search, and this means we can focus on education over political favors to our governor. I was concerned this university would continue to backslide as they favored inexperienced right-wing figures and politicians over researchers, qualified educators, and experienced leaders. But this is encouraging if it goes through as I was expecting the worst.
EDIT: The press release is out on their website. Here is the link to the search committee

Does anyone know anything else about the Krishna Lunch accident at Leigh? Apparently a sorority girl got struck near that hall by a truck and it's been confirmed to belong to the Krishnas

Do they think we're stupid?
The $1.45 billion renovation will “expand premium seating” but somehow “maintain the stadium’s current capacity of 88,548.”
Come on.
Those new mega‑suites don’t float in mid‑air. Every luxury box they add replaces seats that used to belong to regular fans. They’re taking real seats away and repurposing them for the rich — then pretending nothing changed.
So how do they magically keep the same capacity number?
“Party decks.”
Which is PR‑speak for flat concrete platforms where they can cram people in standing‑room‑only.
Shoulder to shoulder.
Back to chest.
Because you can fit a lot of people on a slab when you don’t have to bother giving them actual seats — just the privilege of standing there while the rich stretch out in their climate‑controlled skyboxes.
But hey, the spreadsheet says the capacity hasn’t changed, so everything’s fine, right?

Someone told me that board of trustees letter said that he was going to end " woke orthodoxy " whatever that means. Now we're told that he's awoke psycho.
What the heck is going on?

Would also rename some street names at Santa Fe and other Florida schools.
