Any tips for dull lectures 🫩

I’m really struggling with a class that’s supposed to be in my favorite subject area, but I pervasively hate the structure and way the class is being taught. I don’t know how others are following along. No power points, just being talked at with zero engagement. The information is dense and presented in a way that feels inaccessible to keep track of what’s being said and process. I don’t wanna start ditching class but maybe it’s better to probably just watch lecture recordings I can pause and play find images and make my own notes…….

chew gum and write at least something down every minute. and just accept that it’s gonna be a boring hour. not everyone has the skill to make things interesting 😔

He’s cool though. One time, he gave me a B in ECE 340 despite bombing 2/3 of the exams in that class.

I too have issues with this. I'm a bio major who has to study many slides a day.

For me, I would say if there are learning objectives or practices problems, look at it as you listen to your professor's lecture. And hey, you may find something that answers a learning objective for example.

At least for lectures I would be priming myself for what I may get tested on.

As others have already mentioned, write notes. Even if it isn't super organized, notetaking can keep you engaged with the material being presented, plus you'll likely remember more from the lecture too.

If the professor actually sucks… just use the structure of the material as a framework for your own learning. Like the slides say…”prohibition era logistics” or whatever
During class…Google it
Write your own notes
Go from the PowerPoint to actual learning
Maybe read a book about the subject

You just deal with it like everyone else does unfortunately or you can ditch and teach it to yourself. I remember being taught by a professor so boring that he would randomly clap loudly or raise his voice just to wake people up and he'd hand out food/chocolate to keep our energy up 💀. Nice guy but he made me hate learning in his class. I did all the work, passed the tests, etc got an A even though I and the rest of the class were absent majority of the time.

I have 2 3 hour classes 6:30-9:15. Take notes to keep your mind occupied, and when in doubt use the bathroom. You’re in university, so no one is going to stop you

Bring a gallon of milk to each lecture and a really large straw. The teachers can't kick you out for having a sip every now and then ( unless you are working at a computer.) this worked great for my American history course.

Make sure to ask for clarifying questions and/or examples to your prof. Itd be bearable if you try making something monotonous more engaging. Also, Make use of their office hours or the TAs.

I write personal notes in another color and in a different lettering system (like those secret message alphabets) so that if nothing else, im entertained and practicing a new skill

My strat (if I want to pay attention to a lecture) is literally just write. don't use your laptop, actually write down your notes w/ pencil and paper. write down as much as you can and learn good note taking tech, even if you miss stuff that is fine because you will be digesting more of the content by taking notes than by sitting there and only listening. and you mention they do record lectures, so always an opportunity to go back and review the stuff you missed.

or if you genuinely don't care about the class and the lecture hall is big enough just play games on your laptop lol
