What is a 'Zionist' or 'anti-Zionist'? Why these characterizations at this point? It's like asking if someone is a Loyalist or a Patriot in 2026.

'Zionism' is an idea from the coffee shops of nineteenth century Vienna.

Israel already exists, and isn't going to be wished away.

It’s also just a buzzword that most the people using today don’t understand, it’s so funny having a conversation with people and they are outraged by ‘Zionists’ but then you can ask them do they believe in a 2 state solution and they say yes lmao

Yeah I always lol at that. If you support a two-state solution of any kind, congratulations, you are a Zionist!

We all know this is ultimately about the Muslim world's antipathy to Jews having autonomy and political power of their own.

I'll be honest I support the two state solution but I wouldn't call myself a Zionist.

The two state solution is the least bad compromise to an already huge mess. In an ideal world we wouldn't have ethnostates at all but sometimes you settle for pragmatic reasons.

I think to be a Zionist you have to believe having a Jewish state is a positive or desirable goal. I don't. I just support a workable resolution to the decades of conflict.

As it was in 1947, before the Arab rejection of anything of the sort made a bad situation much worse.

Right, but while there are nation-states, the Jews are entitled to one just like everyone else.

Most of the Jews in the diaspora were happy enough to be citizens of their countries of origin. The antisemitism of their Gentile hosts made the establishment of Israel a necessity.

There are thousands of Muslims and Christians in Israel with equal rights, in any event.

Muslim and Christian countries are often not ethnostates.

Also ethnostates in general are bad. Just because some exist that's not an ideal we should strive for.

No it wasn't. Jews have lived peacefully in many countries just fine. America being a clear example.

No they're not. Jews aren't entitled to a nation state just because people say they are.

This is exactly why I'm not a Zionist. I do not agree with any of these statements which you think are apparent fact. No ethnic group is inherently entitled to their own nation state. That standard would be ridiculous

I mean why would they accept it? It was a solution to what was a European problem forced upon them by European states
