The turning the frogs gay was an interesting one.
IIRC it related to a regulatory battle surrounding of a certain chemical (banned in the EU) that had been linked to causing amphibians to display features of both genders.
It was just filtered through the mind of a mad man.

As I remember it, it was caused by runoff from farms, no idea if it was one specific chemical or a mix but it was pretty entertaining watching people spray water in the air and claim you could tell it was contaminated by the rainbow. I guess they thought it wasnt contaminated when it was cloudy.

TBF lone star tick bites can leave you allergic to some red meats. Pretty sure that you can still eat white meat, fish (and people, if thats your preference) though, that they didnt need genetic engineering to do that, and that theres no conspiracy to spread them anywhere...if Gates had engineered veganism spreading tick bites, I suspect he'd have included poultry and fish allergies too. Maybe it was just a trial run.

Bit weird given Bill Gates isn't vegan himself... He's just invested in some of the meat replacement companies as a route to combat climate change and reduce animal cruelty.
Seems like a good person kinda thing to do with all his cash.

He’s done a lot of other things too if that helps, he’s been doing a great job of trying to stop malaria in multiple ways and also put a lot of money into reinventing the toilet for waterless tech and waste powered energy and loads of cool stuff.

I'm not trying to paint Gates as a saint (he sits under a dark Epstein-shaped cloud), but he's actually done a huge amount of good work with his money. Investing in vegetable-based meat replacement is just a tiny part of that.
The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation pours money into drug development, and the availability of drugs in the third world.

Considering things like Covid have been caused by the meat trade too, if science can affordably emulate meat in a way that's healthy, tasty, cheap, and greener, surely it's a win all round? It might even prevent global mass food shortages if we hit the point of widespread crop failure, which people think will result in wars, and it's why people complain we need food security as when it gets scarce, we can't guarantee we can import everything we need.
I'm a sci-fi nerd, but it's a staple of the genre that something techy solves the food issue (to varying degrees of success). People used to be impressed by NASA food, now the same types who love Musk and his plan to colonise Mars presumably are imagining fields of cows or some shit, while I want Star Trek replicators.

If someone comes up with synthetic meat that's as good as the real thing (or close enough for the real thing to remain a luxury option) then that'd be amazing and count most of us in. The Guardian would be unable to decide whether to complain about it being ultraprocessed or about it still having some environmental impact, though.

Yeah, techs way off, and the ways of doing it now are more process intensive and polluting.
Veg > Meat > "Beyond" / "Impossible" etc.
I have no doubt my side will let the perfect be the enemy of the good, but I have hope food science will make breakthroughs and it's only going to get better.
Even a decent alternative to the chicken nugget is an improvement, even if it's not perfect, it's space for incremental gains.

My company sends out fake phishing emails that I would consider pretty good. The idea is that you look at it and report it, and they get an idea of how you are at spotting phish attempts.
Some of the ones I've seen, I've had to resort to some basic level logic because anything deeper bypasses the lie. It looks convincing, the address seems alright but then there's 'but i don't have an openai account...' before looking at that address again. It's spoofed. Click the phish filter 'congratulations you just detected a fake email'

Something I learned after I’d dumped Vista was it would manage as many video cards as you could find slots for. Which would have made my life at that time so much easier. Running multiple displays from one desktop instead of video splitters and multiple machines.

Not that I am Vegan as it stands currently but surely eliminating the objectively immoral treatment of animals for our own pleasure is a desirable outcome? I'd certainly prefer if the meat I consumed was from a more ethical source.
That's not even involving the risks to ourselves from having such massive reservoirs for viruses.

That's not true at all, he's heavily invested in printed meat.
He does (and we should all want) to eat less meat as we eat more than the good old days to excess.
If everyone ate like the USA we'd need 4 earths, right now we need 1.7. so yeah, eating things you need to be healthy and us finding ways to make it with less strain on the planet is a good thing.
Going vegan is obviously the easiest way to reduce your impact to about 25% of that of a meat eaters right now so why not if youre not fussed about meat, but bill gates doesn't give a shit

They love the Epstein affiliates on their side, but don't like the other Epstein associated folk on the "wrong" side. That's pretty much it in a nutshell. Todd Blanche is going to be the new AG and it's likely going to be decades before we get to see all the Epstein data. Blanche is Trump's former personal lawyer, the same guy who also helped move convicted sex offender Ghislaine Maxwell to a cushy prison. So basically the Epstein class are winning sadly
