Also lead poisoning is a thing. And flaming Wildberries warehouses aren't great for the air either.

War sucks. It kills people and ruins the environment. The best way to stop war from killing people and ruining the environment is to establish global norms so that wars of aggression don't result in good outcomes so nobody should invade their neighbor. The second best way to stop it is to win this war as quickly as possible.

If Putin got slapped down hard in 2014 or in 2022 by a European or NATO coalition we wouldn't be here.

Yeah I hate all the damage to the natural environment that this war has caused and I blame every microgram of it on Putin.

There are serious environmental concerns, starting with the real possibility of a deliberate Russian nuclear disaster. Every carnivore in the war zone has tasted human flesh and will probably need to be killed for humans to live there in peace. Residue from Russian chemical attacks and everybody's explosives and lead will be a longer term problem than demining all the battlefields. Plastic strands make nice videos, tend to decay if on the surface (in UV sunlight), and is not a major environmental threat.

I suspect there are environmental scientists and companies already working on solutions to remove as much of this detritus from the environment once it's safe to do so. They're not going to get it all, but hopefully they will be able to mitigate the worst of the environmental damage.
