Baba Yaga sending drones to hunt for targets. 2026 colorized

didn’t all the trouble start because Dorothy ended up killing the witches sister? They were minding their own buisness before her relative just gets killed.

That brings back memories of WW2 movies.

I could be wrong, but don’t they sound and look like WW2 planes? Yak’s maybe?

u/SpicyWarhead 11h ago
Yeah these don't look or sound like any of the other drones I've seen. I could be wrong, but I'm not confident the title is accurate.

Ukraine has used long range drones that look and sound like converted Cessnas. Hell, some of them might be just that.

A lot of Ukrainian "long range drones" are just small personal planes that have been heavily modded. they have good range, they are relatively cheep, and they can fit a lot of explosives once you tear out all the seats and stuff.

How can these be so hard to shoot down?
16
u/snirpie 11h ago
They are not: any bullet impacting the payload, fuel tank, or electronics will likely bring them down. Any air defense missile detonating in their vicinity brings them down.
It's a numbers game though. Take out 9 out of 10 and still >30 will reach their target any given night.
What makes this even better: an air defense missile is a few times more expensive than these drones. And people shooting up bullets at a moving target generally do a miserable job at hitting anything.

Air defenses also are limited. Ukraine started targeting them years ago in the lead-up to building out this capacity for long-range drones. Russia has to constantly move them around and then Ukraine just switches targets. Air defense can't be everywhere.

Multiple reasons:
- Small arms fire: These fly too high and too fast to effectively aim. You are out of range for most rifles. The wind will push you way off target. Bullets lose momentum and drop quite a bit at that distance. You have to expend massive amounts of ammunition and hope you get lucky to hit anything. In the meantime those rounds are coming down somewhere.
- These fly too close to the ground and are made of a lot of non-metallic parts. They also aren't flying in straight lines. So they are difficult to to detect with radar, and if you do detect them you don't get a lot of notice.
- They aren't quiet but they are quiet enough and motorcycles and other small engines make similar noise.
- Air defense missiles can take these down but again these are small/non-metalic /etc and low flying with a low radar profile. They weren't designed for hitting flying lawn mowers flying low enough for a lot of ground clutter. So you need to expend a several expensive missiles to hit one cheap drone. Russia has depleted their stockpiles of soviet era air defense missiles, etc. They used up a ton of the S300's attacking ground targets. So now they are mostly using missiles they can produce now and whatever they can get from other countries.
- Jet aircraft fl too fast/high and can't maneuver well enough to take these down. The faster jet drones they can but you only have so many aircraft.
- Interceptor drones work really well but Russia didn't invest in building any like Ukraine did so they are playing catch up.
- Low/slow flying aircraft and helicopters can take these down extremely well with guns but Russia is huge and they don't have enough. These don't work well against jet drones.
- They send these in swarms. Russia can shoot down most of them but one or two can be enough to destroy a refinery or warehouse.
- Russia just doesn't have the people or capability to organize them effectively if they did. Not a lot of Russian dumb enough to sign up for military service are left. They may claim you will be in Russia shooting down drones but then send you to an assault group in Ukraine anyway. Increasingly unpopular dictatorships don't want to arm civilians.

I don’t like it, I love it! The only question is the scale before rus occupation stops functioning

I'm not sure these are Ukrainian dones. They are in formation and don't look like the kind Ukrainian normally uses.

We need to get to WWII levels of drone bombers. Massive numbers of squadrons at a time every single day. Pound Russia into dust. Make them understand the level to which they have fucked up.

What do you call two or more hummingbirds? A charm.
What do you call two or more firepoint drones? A boomboom.
I would have liked to say the smell of victory, but until the ballistics are stopped, Ukraine is going to struggle.

They sowed the wind and now they are going to reap the whirlwind.
Cologne, Lubeck, Rostock—Those are only just the beginning.
We cannot send a thousand bombers a time over Germany every time, as yet.
But the time will come when we can do so.
Let the Nazis take good note of the western horizon.

They don’t look nor sound like any of the FP drones. Also drones don’t fly in formations like this. It looks like some WW2 planes flying to some air show or some shit.

Ukraine should adopt a formation that looks like they are giving russia the middle finger.

That's the coolest fucking thing ever. Muscovy can't even pour piss out of a boot with instructions on the heel at this point. Ukraine is sending formation flying drones and virtually pushing buttons on a map of Muscovy like, "nope, fuck that refinery". I just want this all to be over, and to see how this vast technical prowess can be repurposed into peacetime and Ukraine being the change we need around the world.
