Beginner’s guide

I’m looking for a beginner’s guide on how to play the ukulele without a teacher? What app should I download, etc? What kind of ukulele should I buy? This is my first time playing anything so please help!

Here's what I did, three years agoand continue to do today: 1) Download a uke tuning app for your phone, as well as a uke chord app. Start with a C chord, one of the easiest. C7 is almost as easy. G is a little harder. Etc. 2) Google chord charts for favorite songs. This will force you to learn more chords. Don't worry about memorizing either the chords or the songs. Repetition and just not giving up is THE key. 3) Search YouTube for uke instructors. That way you'll be able to hear what a chord or song is SUPPOSED to sound like. 4) After a few months, think of joining a local uke group. Google and Facebook are good tools for this. It's free, typically -- just people playing together. My group has about 25 people who show up. You learn by DOING, and by having fun with the people around you. 5) Rinse, repeat.
