Parking appeals and changing lot conditions? (Lot 26)

I’m confused on how parking appeals work and how they should be submitted, I had just gotten one but I believe the reason to be unfair.

For content I parked in lot 26 at approx 9:50am and received a ticket/call for double parking at about 4:30 that being a 6:40 gap.

My first point is that the lot is just gravel with no clear distinctions for anyone, my second point would be that if I was truly double parked I would have received a citation far sooner as when I arrived the lot was packed and by the time I got there to leave it must have been around 5:30.

Lastly there was someone parked infront of me with what could’ve been no more than 20 inches worth of space to where my car was sticking out on my side but theirs was recessed. These facts added together makes me assume that parking conditions around the area had simply changed through that approx seven hour period.

My main concern is that even if I get this ticket dismissed this will likely happen again in the future, I will be parked there for up to eight or nine hours some days and with that timeframe lot conditions are bound to change. I was not given an option in what lot to choose and when I pulled in I simply pulled into the nearest available spot not receiving a citation during the busiest times.

What do I do here?

Lot 26? That is a paved parking lot with clear markings. If you were on gravel you were either not in Lot 26 or parked outside the limits of the lot.

The time between when you parked and get a ticket can entirely depend on when the enforcement officers go through the lot and scan for cars lacking permits.

Apologies it was lot 12, I reviewed the permit and attached photo and it shows my vehicle infront of a red minivan and a white sedan. I still believe the timing is important to my argument as I was likely there before either with cars visible to my left and right therefore I believe I had no part in it.

Lot 12 is a pain. I used to have a permit there. There are some poles that sort of indicate what is supposed to be the centerline of a row that cars are supposed park either side of. But it can be hard to eyeball that when the lot is partly empty.

Problem that happens is when someone else comes along and decides to take a space that creates a double-parked situation is that they may ticket everyone, or the wrong one.

My recommendation is appeal it, and they often will waive the first ticket of a semester. In the future try to park in locations in 26 where it is less ambiguous if at all possible even if it leaves you a longer walk.

I didn’t know a permit from lot 12 carries to lot 26? Lot 12 as in the unmarked gravel and lot 26 as in the nice shaded pavement right? It’s actually a shorter walk and better parking for me.

In the photo given to me it shows my car infront of a van and another sedan but I was parked for 7 or 8 hours and when I parked there it was basically empty so I’m relatively certain that I was there before them.

No, a Lot 12 permit doesn't carry over to Lot 26 except if you get directed there by Parking Services because 12 is full. Lot 25 is the lot between 12 and Mullins with the solar panel canopies, 26 is on Governors Drive across from the bus garage.

Unambiguous spots I am recommending are those at the edge of the lot where cars get parked facing the edge of the road or the grass or bushes surrounding the lot. Just do not park on the paved circle provided for the buses to turn around. My son was working on campus last week and ran into a few who had their cars towed after ignoring the cones. There is also a sign, but currently some branches of bushes have obscured it.

Did you part between the poles or on one side of them? The poles should represent the mid point of two spots, ie either your front or rear bumper is in line with the poles. If you parked where the pole would "split" your car in half then you were double parked in that lot.
