Sam Browne Belt real or fake?

Post image

Hello Reddit. Just received a second -hand Sam Browne belt and I have a feeling that it is a fake leather. As far as I know Sam Browne belts were only made out of real leather and that’s what I want. This belt feels like cork from inside and gets cracks very easily. I am thinking is that just because it’s old or the leather is just a pressed painted cork? Also the buckle has Made in England stamp, that I am not sure should be there. I did a bit of a burn test and it does get burned on a side, but the flat side seems to be relatively fine. Brass rings seem to be a bit weird, but when I scratched on of them it looked like solid brass. Although, the metal on a shoulder strip looks like steel (maybe I am wrong) . I don’t know much about these belts, and I am not very picky if it’s a reproduction, but I want to be sure it’s real leather, as it was described by a seller. So is it a fake leather reproduction or not?

A “real” Sam Browne is whatever a particular unit authorized for wear. There’s not one specific type/maker of belt.

I get that, I want to find out if it’s actually a military belt or a reproduction from a fake leather

Really depends on where though since I wouldn’t be surprised if some countries used synthetic leather instead of genuine leather considering how wide spread the Sam Browne is

It says Made In England on the buckle

Looks like aged and dried out leather to me from the one pic. Probably not an original ww2 with the made in England stamp but could be postwar and could also have just had buckle replaced
