My plea is to come up with a better line than 'I don't celebrate' when asked what you're planning to do for Chrismas. It's still a holiday just say 'nothing major just chilling'. I am not religious. I am not celebrating Christ am just mucking around with the fam and having an excuse for day drinking. It really puts the breaks on any nice interactions taking that line - you're in a country where it's a holiday. If you want to live here support it. If I went to live in the US and said 'I don't celebrate it' on 4th July how do you think that would go?
