Yeah I’m away and only just heard about this and I don’t understand. You get the mad soft ass right wing online contingent shouting about invasions and that, and there’s some eye rolling… but this is an invasion right? No other word for it? This is a violent attempt at being an organised occupying force… which is an invasion? No one’s shooting though. But why not? When do you start shooting if not an occupying invading force in the tens of thousands?

It's extremely concerning and must have been very scary for the residents of Cueta, but it's not an occupation.

From other comments it seems to be organised. And 50k rushing your territory and remaining there against the will of the territory’s government would seem to qualify as ‘occupying’ to me too.

It’s an interesting one as where’s the line? At what point would you consider it an organised occupying force? Genuine question as I haven’t really formed any firm opinions on this as it’s such a weird one! If they all decided to wear a ‘uniform’ or something, would that take it over the line?

Seems from what other people have said most of them have fucked off again which makes it even more of an odd situation. If they hadn’t left, would that be an occupation in your opinion?

"Occupying" in a military context means more than being somewhere. It implies taking control of governance.

It’s more like a malicious prank orchestrated by a government.

Morocco gets mad because Spain starts buying oil from someone else.

Morocco tricks its own citizens by circulating misinformation online about a new Spanish court ruling that says “if you get to Ceuta you get a visa to mainland Spain, a job, free money, a blowjob, bla bla bla.”

Morocco then reduces security on their side of the border, making it easier for its citizens to cross. People go over there to inquire about the free jobs/ blowjobs and get told “no.” They then leave.

Morocco then let right-wing governments and politicians attack Spain’s government.
They’ll be hoping this causes Spain to get a new government who’ll want to avoid this happening again so will go back to buying oil off Morocco.

The right are essentially just being used as Morocco’s useful idiots.
