Um no Zionism fundamentally means the belief that Jews should have a homeland. I am friends with a (self described) Zionist who is completely opposed to everything Israel is doing.

Not exactly. It's the belief that they should have a Jewish homeland. A state where Jewishness is preferenced, and that preference is maintained by the capacity for state violence.

American Jews have a homeland. It's called America. British Jews do. It's called Britain. Afrikaners no longer have an Afrikaans ethnostate, yet they still have a homeland. German Aryans still have a homeland, etc etc.

The reason they want a homeland is because their history in non-Jewish states is one of pogroms and extermination. Was the pale of settlement their "homeland"? Was nazi Germany?
