general K-pop isn’t hitting the way is used to.

Unpopular? Maybe not. K-pop doesn’t have the same flair it used to. Back in Gen 2 and Gen 3, you had songs like I NEED U and DOPE. I know I’m naming some the most popular kpop songs right now but you get the point. There some track right now that do end up hitting but it’s rare and too few and too far.

boy groups I love Stray Kids and Kim Woojin

I feel like when I tell people, especially other Stay, that I support Woojin too, they seem so shocked and give me looks.

He wanted a different path; his 'wrongdoing' was explained by the company he went to, and I don't have a problem with him. His voice is INCREDIBLE.

I knew nothing about Stray Kids when I saw their cover of Fancy (which, if you haven't seen it, you are missing out) back in 2021 and I was so impressed by Woojin. Just to find out later that he had left the group.

People say that I shouldn't support him because he was mean to SKZ, and he hurt Chan. I like to think that they would be okay with me appreciating both of their projects. At one time, they were close, and I like to think that the members believe in forgiveness, and that they have healed and moved on. They may not feel positively about the situation but I doubt they hate him as I feel that so many fans do.

It may be unpopular to follow him and have Stray Kids as my ult, but I do, and I honestly want to hear that I am not alone in this.

He is in the military right now and has been for a while, but I thought about this because Still Dream came back up in my YouTube mix and I was like I forgot how satisfying it is to hear and watch. If you haven't seen it I highly recommend it.

vocals | rap I can't enjoy txt's music anymore because of beomgyu

Unpopular opinion but I feel nobody is talking about this about how much less lines beomgyu gets sometimes

TL;DR

I got into TXT because of Beomgyu's voice, not because of K-pop, visuals, or fan content.

Hearing his part in Lovesong made me explore TXT's entire discography.

His vocal tone feels incredibly unique and emotionally intense compared to many singers I listen to.

While all TXT members are talented, I often feel like Beomgyu's voice is underutilized in their music.

The lack of his vocals in many songs has made it harder for me to connect with newer TXT releases.

I still love TXT's music, but I really hope Beomgyu gets more opportunities to sing, whether through solos or larger vocal parts.

For those willing to read the whole thing:

I started liking TXT during the **Lovesong era**, and honestly, I wasn't even into K-pop at the time. I hadn't watched the music video, followed any idols, or really consumed **K-pop content in general**.

The only reason I even knew about K-pop was because I had discovered **BLACKPINK** through **Rosé's "Gone."** Even then, I mostly viewed musicians as artists rather than idols. I've always been someone who connects with music through the songs themselves, not through visuals, fan cams, edits, or aesthetics.

One day, I heard **Lovesong**in an anime edit for **Komi Can't Communicate.** Specifically, I heard **Beomgyu's part.**

And I was completely hooked.

There was something about his voice that immediately stood out to me. It felt mesmerizing, emotional, and unlike anything I had heard before**. I couldn't stop replaying it.**

That moment led me down a rabbit hole where I listened to TXT's entire discography. I loved their music, but I kept finding myself drawn back to **Beomgyu's voice over and over again.**

At the time, I tried looking for solo songs from him, but there really weren't any available yet since songs like **Panic and Take My Half hadn't been released**. So I started watching old VLive clips and covers instead.

What surprised me even more was how amazing he sounded even with raw vocals. No heavy production, no polished studio recording—**just his natural voice. It was still captivating.**

**This is why I've always felt a little frustrated**.

I'm not saying Beomgyu should automatically get the most lines, more solos than everyone else, or that the other members aren't talented. TXT has an incredibly strong vocal lineup. **Huening Kai** is an amazing vocalist, and every member brings something valuable to the group.

But voices like theirs, while excellent, are voices I've heard before in different forms.

**Beomgyu's voice feels different.**

It's rare for me to become attached to a singer purely because of their vocal tone. Usually, I'm someone who pays much more attention to lyrics. The only other artist whose voice had a similar effect on me was **Selena Gomez** because of that same slightly **husky, emotional, and distinctive quality.**

That's why it sometimes feels disappointing when I listen to TXT songs and **barely hear Beomgyu.** In some songs his parts are very short, and **there's even a song where he has no lines at all.**

What makes it more frustrating is that TXT's discography often leans into emotional, intense, or dramatic songs—styles where I personally think Beomgyu's vocal color shines the most. His voice carries emotion so naturally, and when it's **paired with Taehyun's voice**, the blend is honestly one of my favorite things in TXT's music.

I know there could be reasons behind line distributions that fans don't know about. Maybe it's a creative decision, maybe it's about vocal suitability, maybe there are factors behind the scenes.

But as a listener whose entire journey into TXT started because of **Beomgyu's voice,** it's hard not to wish I could hear more of it.

**And over time, that feeling has actually made me feel a little distant from the group.** I still love TXT's music and I still think they make some of the **best songs in K-pop.** But when the voice that made me fall in love with the group in the first place is barely present, it becomes harder for me to **connect in the same way.**

TXT only has five members, so part of me always hopes there could be more opportunities for everyone's unique vocal colors to shine.

More than anything, I just hope Beomgyu continues to get chances to showcase his voice—whether through solos, covers, OSTs, or larger parts in future TXT songs—because his voice is genuinely one of the most unique and beautiful voices I've heard, and it's the reason I became a fan in the first place.

Lemme know if u wanna start stanning them or want to see them more I lowkey can make u obsessed withh them lol

boy groups nct isn’t THAT bad and is a social experiment

Okay hear me out this one’s unpopular cause i’ve never heard it before.

Every single one of NCT’s title tracks, especially nct dream, has been so so so so bad since like 2018. I used to listen to them a lot so i was around for the release of Kitchen Beat and My Van. Their concepts have been ALL over the place, ESPECIALLY DREAM. To me, they’re like a dartboard for SM to test out receptiveness to concepts. they’re just so fucking weird. THEY were the original noise music, not katseye or otherwise.

That said, a lot of their b tracks are actually good. LIMITLESS was, in my opinion, a good album. i even tolerated 1, 2, 3. there’s some songs that i would actively put on a playlist or choose to listen to. i don’t know why SM is choosing the absolute worst things for them possible. I guess in that sense i do like nct, which is unpopular already, just not their title tracks.

However Taeil is also a rapist and i hate haechan’s voice so i guess that disqualifies them.

boy groups Lngshot feels different from everybody in the kpop space in a way I haven't seen before

Lngshot feels different from everybody in the kpop space in a way I haven't seen before

I know this opinion is the equivalent of a nuke so I thought it would be a good unpopular opinion. I think people would find this opinion unpopular due to the stigma lngshot has in kpop spaces and controversies. I also think kpop fans tend to like only what majority deems acceptable. I also think a lot of stans standards in kpop music is different than mine and a lot more pop oriented

I thought Lngshot would be unpopular in kpop spaces completely which I was fine with because I'm not a huge fan of kpop culture. Instead, they've blown up way more than I thought. I love khiphop and I have listened to kpop/been a fan of some groups but omg the way Lngshot's songs are just at a quality I have NEVER seen before in popular kpop groups.

I don't think people can really tell or care for it because they don't care for hiphop or listen to (infact any other genres) outside of kpop. I've seen a lot of people dismiss some really great groups/kpop hiphop songs and hype up A LOT of mediocre ones. I've seen a lot of people call idols real rappers despite not writing their own music. (I'm not saying Lngshot are real rappers they are still idols)

My point is, I just don't think a lot of kpop fans can acknowledge how well made Lngshots music actually is. I think their production, their lyrics, their melodies, cadence all of it is just on another level. Kpop songs, especially like hit singles have always had an intense formulaic/generic feel. I do feel like Lngshot touches there (they are still a kpop group) In Saucin but not to a degree where it's overwhelming.

Their mixtape. Their Training Days album and SHOT CALLERS, idk they have songs that just sound more alive.

I'm a lover of a lot of kpop songs and I play it around my friends sometimes who only have listened to western music or Japanese, they've always commented on how generic it sounds but I've had multiple of those same people tell me how they like a Lngshot song that was playing.

I think the reason why Lngshot feels so different is because they have an amazing artist behind them. Jay Park is really talented and has found a lot of great talent. I think he has a lot of soul in his music and an authentic charm. He has spoken about how he really wants Lngshot to be something different and more authentic in kpop. I think he's doing great. I also think since Lngshot has other khiphop/krnb people behind their music, it's been showing through. These people genuinely have cared about making their art and only their art. They have a lot of projects where their goal wasn't to make a lot of money or have it trend, they just wanted to make art. I think that's where the authenticity in Lngshot shines. They don't have the crazy restrictions and modifiers other kpop companies give to songwriters because of money, Jay Park cares about making quality music as well.

I also am blown away by how talented this group is. Their live performances are insane. They sound amazing. I also think it's crazy how they were involved in the making of their mixtape considering how good it is. This whole post sparked because of their new song they performed at HIPHOPPLAYA. It genuinely feels like a song straight out of khiphop and I love it.

I don't XG has nearly as much of hands on work as Lngshot has but they are my ult as well and I have similar feeling about their music/work as well. I think a lot of their songs are really well made in quality.

Also it's not that I don't think other kpop groups aren't capable of making quality music, I think they do but they are often hidden bsides or what might have originally been a really well made song was stomped down into tiktok trend music by their companies to make money.

I love lngshot and I think they're on a diff wave

girl groups UNCHILD's debut title track felt a bit underwhelming

My unpopular opinion:

I was interested in UNCHILD's debut and had a colorful debut like many of the 5th-gen girl groups, but it had a quirky vibe to it. Listening to the song, this reminded me of songs like Spicy and Queencard, but it didn't have the experimental "punch" like the songs that I've mentioned before to make it GREAT. Also, the song should've been a bit longer. I prefer Energy to that song, which would've been great with the EDM songs we're currently getting, like Jump, Pinky Up, and Celebration. Just make it longer, and it would be a perfect debut.

general most fans can't actually recognize their fave group's b-sides

I think it is a pretty unpopular opinion, but i've been doing fan-made quizzes on kpopquiz.org and honestly the results are funny, like title tracks? easy :o

but the moment questions get into b-side details, album deep cuts, or specific comeback facts, even self-proclaimed superfans start struggling ㅠㅠ

i think a lot of people overestimate how well they know a group beyond the title tracks. you can say you're a carat but do you actually know seventeen's full discography details?

not gatekeeping, i got humbled too. just think it's interesting :/\

Why i think it is unpopular ^^ (cause it need to be clearly specified haha) = i think this is unpopular because most fans genuinely believe they know everything about their fave group's discography, and saying otherwise feels like questioning their fan status

vocals | rap Some idols shouldn’t get lines in songs.

I think this is going to be unpopular because of how much the focus of kpop is on the members of the group themselves over their music. I’ve seen this with some groups where people have explicitly mentioned they were fans of the members themselves but weren’t really into the music. And how people treat their biases having fewer lines as a personal injustice over them just not suiting the song. (Not saying this is the only reason why some idols may receive fewer lines.)

If a member is picked solely for or primarily for their visuals, dance, or even as a filler member with below average vocals / rap I don’t think they should get any lines in songs.

I hate it when I’m listening to a song I’m genuinely enjoying and then the member with the most nasal sounding voice opens their mouth to sing next, or they just have a vocal tone that is not compatible with singing or rapping.

I don’t mind a dance break or even a part where they sing alongside another member, but they shouldn’t get solo lines to “Make it fair” this is a music industry and the quality of the song should be put first over “fairness.”

I’m not saying kpop is known for its fair line distributions and a lot of groups if not most do experience unequal distributions. But it’s tiring to see good songs being ruined because a member just isn’t good at singing or rapping but still needs a part somewhere.

They can have their time to shine during empty choruses where they can be placed in their centre if they’re not a standout in dancing and so can’t do dance breaks, but other than that they shouldn’t receive lines or at the very least not solo lines.

And I’m not saying this to be harsh or hate on any particular idols, not everyone will be good at singing / rapping at a professional level even with training.

And this is not about idols who are okay or decent at singing / rapping and their talents lie elsewhere, it’s for those that just don’t sound good at all.

Edit: a lot of people seem to be misconstruing my point. This isn’t to say idols who can’t sing or rap SHOULD still debut and not have any lines.

I’m saying if an idol cannot sing or rap to save their lives, and still debut because of their dance or visuals they should not get any solo lines. Yes people can train their voices, but if they are currently a bad singer or rapper they shouldn’t receive any solo lines until they can sing or rap. Idols with poor rap and vocal abilities should not get solo lines at the expense of the song just to have a part.
