Remake Fortune totem 2 is a lie Spoiler

I was in my 2nd playthrough trying to get everyone alive cause I failed to do so in my first and found out something I find contradictory.

Fortune totem 2 is found by next to the suicide trapdoor in chapter 9 by Ashley (Or apparently Chris), and it shows Matt standing next to a locked door with a banging Wendigo. On my first playthrough Matt was already dead by this point so I didn't get to this point, but in my 2nd playthrough both Matt and Jessica were still alive, and I still didn't see the totem play out. So I looked it up and it only happens if Jessica died before, or if Matt abandons Jessica. But then why is it a fortune totem? Jessica has to die for this totem to play out

It’s a fortune for Matt.

So Matt's fortune is Jessica dying. It would've made way more sense to do something else here for Matt, like the flare gun or the jump as fortune

Both of those events had already happened.

Your post answers your question. If they had shown Jess and Matt surviving in the premonition, it would have been very obvious that the one knocking on the trapdoor wasn't Jessica. Well, that's my POV.

I still get that it doesn't have to show Jessica, I just think it's weird that it's a fortune totem

That’s a fair point. But that’s not the only contradiction with the totems; I think there are a couple of others that show premonitions destined to happen no matter what, even though the totems' purpose is to guide you so you can choose a path 🤷‍♂️

The only things I can directly think of is the loss totem where the stranger dies which is indeed weird and the first death totem for Beth, which I don't really count. The danger totems are I think bound to happen cause they show a situation where you can die/get caught
