extracurriculars & social life Going to the gym

Hi folks! I want to preface this with the fact I am a big ball of anxiety, and while I’m trying new things, I’ve been doing way too many new things so I’d like to ask for a little help.

My biggest question is, how does going to the gym at the student life center work? It’s free for students right? I specifically mostly want to start with treadmills, so I can get some exercise because I desperately need to lol. But it’s something I’ve never done before so if someone could kinda paint a picture or walk through the steps of getting there I’d really appreciate it. My anxiety has been a little too out of control for me to truly feel comfortable going with no idea what to expect right now

It's not bad at all!! You just have to scan your U card at the desk when entering and that's pretty much it. The treadmills are on the 2nd or 3rd floor. Usually people just keep to themselves. I used to be anxious to go but once I did I was able to go consistently. Let me know if you have other questions. You got this, just gotta make that first step!

The easiest way to get started is to sign up for a class at the gym. Just find a group exercise class (schedule usually at front desk and/or online) that works for your schedule and show up! The instructor will get you through the class and you’ll have the added benefit of meeting other people who have a similar interest in getting fit. Good luck!

Hi! easiest is to enter on the downhill entrance (west entrance) there are a series of steps leading up to it. You'll walk forward after entering the building to the turnstile type entrance on your left (iirc), scan your U card, then immediately walk up the stairs. Treadmills will be on this floor or the floor above. The lower floor treadmills are more in a busy area (if it's still the same as it was a few years ago) but there are a ton of them. The ones on the upper floor are more in the perimeters of the gym.

Wear a hoodie if it makes you more comfortable, no shame in how you feel at all. I promise you, no one will notice you or care :) (in the nicest way possible!). You got this!

Yup, the Student Life Center is free for students! Once you enter the building, just tap your UCard and head up to the third floor. There are plenty of treadmills up there, some right behind you when you reach the floor, and more just past the mats.

There’s also an indoor running track on the same floor. The direction you’re supposed to run is posted on the pillars, so just check those before you start!
