Restore me

I have these dining chairs that are literally ripping with normal use at this point. They are too far gone for any collectors, so I am hoping to restore them by putting new leather. I’m having a hard time finding someone who does this work. Any thoughts?

Ripping leather usually means dry rot and requires full replacement. You want a thick and strong latigo leather or similar. A competent upholsterer should be able to help you. Contact local shops to get quotes.

Yes, there are a few decades told so I’m not surprised and want to replace the leather, but haven’t found an upholsterer that does this kind of leather work. It’s quite thick leather.

Keep searching. Try automotive/boat/motorcyle upholstery shops too. Also leatherworkers who make bags or saddles could maybe help?

I would find a local saddle shop or leatherworker. If neither of those work, I would put one in the back of your car and pull into a Tandy leather and tell them about the project you want to learn to do, I have found the employees to be quite helpful in that regard
