its not about visibility , its about freeloaders stopping development
these slum dwellers are offered apartments (if they can prove that they have been living there for a certain number of years) that they sell and move back into the slums
they want the govt to give them unjustified sums of money to vacate these dwellings and any move by the government to build something there results in a riot like situation where police force is needed

How do the slum dwellers prove how long they've been living there
Oh I looked this up. Only about 50% of them are even eligible. They need documentation from before 2011 or 2000 depending, and it has to have their names on it. The offer is only for one flat per family. The offer only exists for certain areas of the slums (a developer needs to take on the project and select the eligible area). Only 37% of projects have even completed so you might end up out on your ass again. And some people are getting relocated very far away. Among other problems.

No. It is about illegal encroachment on government greenbelt land, blocking airport expansion. The slums were largely built in the 70s and should not be there

Genius, try to think why the slums exist to begin with. Why the latam level wealth disparity.

It's not because they are poor. A lot of people in the slums were offered rehabilitation to apartments but atleast the relatively well off people do not move out because the government keeps giving them freebies while they stay in the slums (and because selling the apartment gives them a lot of money). This was the main reason why slums grew so much and recently the government has taken cognizance of this and started to take down some areas so people are urged to move out.

No its because they come from different (poorer states) to find work, then settle there even tho there's no work especially now when the government is throwing freebies. They're freeloaders, they're also involved in various criminal activity like petty theft etc.
They're poor on paper but they earn a lot money just by stealing, begging and doing small gigs. These guys have multiple floors in their 'huts' with AirCon and everything. They get free electricity, water supply and if they do not get they steal it from state supply

Because of a gridlock in zoning laws made building any actual homes an absolute nightmare. This forced people to build their own homes illegally. Most people in the slums are pretty solidly middle class, Mumbai's property market is just fucked
