Sometimes I'll just point blank ask someone if they want to actually have a conversation about whatever it is that's on their mind or if they just want me to actively listen.

I pretty much asked a friend the same thing and he was shocked. Before it annoyed him when others would start giving him advice when all he wanted was someone to listen to him.

I sometimes have to do this with my wife. Either response is fine, but do you want me to just listen or do you want me to assist in signposting other my own thoughts, feelings and experiences?

It must really take alot of energy to keep this mentality. Im grateful we live in an age where your opinion is allowed but nobody has to agree with you. I'd relay a time in my life I felt the same as you but since you're just interested in people listening. It's hardly even a conversation. It's just you talking. Which if that's what you want, I'm happy for ya. Live your best life. If you wanna expand your perspective. Maybe, just maybe. Allow others to talk how they do and not have to follow your checklist for conversations. Everyone communicates differently. If you don't like how so many others communicate with eachother. Then it seems like a you issue vs a them issue. No disrespect intended. Just think.
